Ugh & Ha & Oh! (Domain Registry of America and Randomness)

Ugh:
Okay so remember how I said that I lost some of my pictures files? Well try all of the ones that had been scanned in or obtained at all in 2004. Royally sucks. So not only do I have to redo all of those, but I have a problem with the rest of the pictures files. (Photos consistently since 1996 as well as ancestral photos, etc.) That problem would be that they were last backed up on December 2, 2003 - that means they were done before I got Windows XP, and THAT means that my cd will not work on this computer.
So guess what I’m doing?
Lol, I am very lucky that the old Compaq is still kicking a bit. It’s down on the floor to my left hooked up and running - it’s using my main phone line and the same internet connection and is also connected. Both computers are running ICQ and I am doing file transfer with myself. :D I figured that would in the long run be easier than uploading them somewhere and then downloading them, probably with ftp - so instead I’m doing the uploading and downloading at the same time.
I have already done the ancestral photos, our wedding photos (and songs, they were in there, too), Re-Generation photos, and family portraits (that we do yearly). 1996 is done and 1997 is nearly done - they are included in the total of 1996-2003 (not including the 2003 that got scanned in 2004) which is a total of 123.27 megs. Arg. But I suppose this is better than nothing.

Ha:
So I just went out and got the snail mail. We got a water bill, a Lowe’s paper, and I got two pieces of junk mail. One of these is from this company called Domain Registry of America, droa.com. They are trying to get me to transfer one of my domain names to them. The really stupid (funny?) thing is that they are saying it expires Nov 27, 2004 and that I can renew it with them for 2004-05 for $25, or 04-06 for $40, or 04-09 for $85. Are they STUPID? Or well maybe they’re not, but they seem to think I am. LOL first of all, my domain IS renewed up through 2005, so why they heck would I want to pay them $25 for something I already paid $7 for? They are also trying to sell me .org and .com for $40 for two years.
The really sad thing is that they are probably confusing a lot of people out there who don’t know what they’re doing - for instance some of the people I do websites for. I’ve had to deter email spam like this before where those people were concerned. So the DROA says:

As a courtesy to domain name holders, we are sending you this notification of the domain name registration that is due to expire in the next few months. When you switch today to the Domain Registry of America, you can take advantage of our best savings. Your registration for [] will expire on November 27, 2004. Act today!

You must renew your domain name to retain exclusive rights to it on the Web, and now is the time to transfer and renew your name from your current Registrar to the Domain Registry of America. Failure to renew your domain name by the expiration date may result in loss of your online identity making it difficult for your customers and friends to locate you on the Web.
Privatization of Domain Registrations and Renewals now allows the consumer the choice of Registrars when initially registering and also when renewing a domain name. Domain name holders are not obligated to renew their domain name with their current Registrar or with the Domain Registry of America. Review our prices and decide for yourself. You are under no obligation to pay the amounts stated below, unless you accept this offer. This notice is not a bill. It is rather an easy means of payment should you decide to switch your domain name registration to the Domain Registry of America.

LOL could they BE any more stupid? Of course, then the back of the page is FILLED with TINY TINY print - it is so freaking small I’m not going to attempt to read it. Last time I read something that small, I got a headache lol.

Anyway, I think that when 1997 is done downloading I will cancel it for a few minutes (I need a restart on this computer anyway) and while my phone line is freed up I’m going to call these people and give them a piece of my mind. At least demand to be taken off their list, as is my right to do so. This is not the first one of these things I’ve gotten before - this is what I get for having my info on the whois. I have since removed it, but once you’re on those SPAM lists, you’re on em.
Anyway…

So cool

Who knew this would be so cool to be able to watch Freaky Friday on my computer while I do some web design? Lol It is just too bad that my webcapture program thingy also can’t capture frames, just like the print screen button - it just turns out black. Oh well.
Today’s been a pretty normal day. Just housework, web design, baby care, dog care, etc. :D
I liked Freaky Friday though. M left it here Saturday when she left (it’s my mom’s or G’s or something) because we were still watching it. Cute movie - no questionable content that I can remember - a pretty good message or two - entertaining.
Oh speaking of that, I don’t think I’ve talked about my life during the time I was gone. Well, since it is ancient history already by blog standards, I’ll paginate it. Click to read more if you really care. ;-)

“You have 12 photos online… Your photos have been downloaded 97 times altogether….”

Yay :-)

I submitted a couple of the 5-29-04 photos the other day. Yes, before I got this new computer going and realized that the scans look like absolute crap! I haven’t yet figured out if it’s because the scanner was dirty (although I tried to clean it up before I started them) or if they are just scanned at such a huge resolution that the light reflected out of the little indents in the matte finish. Either way, they look horrible when not resized smaller - all grainy and such. I guess I’m going to look into really cleaning this scanner and then try again. I’m actually pretty surprised that 7 of the 11 I submitted the other day got accepted looking like that. But again, resize em a bit smaller and they are fine.

Also since I last posted about it, my piano picture has been downloaded a total of 43 times, and I have one comment: I love the angle this photo was taken at! - thank you, locostorm. :-)

Man, I love Stock Exchange, I’m glad that I can finally contribute.
I’ve mentioned this before, but I think I’m going to rescan some of the ones I did of the girls in 2002 and 2003 and get them high-res and submit them. Sxc says they’re always on the lookout for portraits. Actually, I’m surprised they accepted the three I submitted of Elijah - no rejects for him yet - as they say the rejection rate of children’s photos is 90%.
And now that I look at it…. I think that I made my most recent photos way too big anyway… they are about 1989 x 2903 for vertical and 2949 x 1955 for horizontal. Guess I should stick to like 1200 x 1000 or something.

Anyway, here’s my absolute favorite photo from that day. I did not submit this to sxc.hu for various reasons.

I swear, one day this kid is going to be famous… :-D

Dude, I got a Dell!

Yahoo!! I got a Dell! This one: Dimension 4600c, only I upgraded it to get a 80 gig hard drive instead of the 40 and I got a free flat-panel upgrade, and a free upgrade to a CD-RW/DVD drive. The only thing is that there is no floppy drive. While I don’t use floppys like I used to, I still do occasionally, and figure I’d better have one on hand. Plus, when school rolls around, and I just thought of this, I may really need one then. But I can get an external later. So I am really excited about this flat panel monitor, such a space saver!!

Anyway… I’m back!!! And lovin’ it!!!

Oh, and in honor of my return, there are now two new layouts available. They’re from the Lord of the Rings (will explain later) and are all mine. See the style section to the right (bottom of menu) and select “aragorn” or “arwen.” Not sure if I like the Arwen one, but I think I am more proud of the Aragorn one.

Anyway, I am now off to start adding my programs and files into my new computer!!!

[EDIT] hmmm… now that I look at this, I think Arwen is screwed up in 1024×768 (which I now use)… oh well, will fix later.

Oh yeah, & happy birthday to my mommy today!

I think this is it!!

Okay, I think this is it!!
I am now writing to you from ugly Windows ME and default settings.
While trying to uninstall Flash tonight my computer crashed on me. Now all I get is a “Imminent Hard Drive Failure” message, even after restoring to default settings.
So, point is, I may not be around for a while. In fact, if this message is still at the top of my main page, that means I’m currently screwed.
This would happen now, wouldn’t it? Just as I am actually in a position where I really need this stupid computer.
So anyway, I’ve got it running for the time being, but I think it’s dead any minute now. So everyone leave me nice little messages to cheer me up and I’ll be back asap. :-D
OH and cross your fingers and pray that I get a new computer soon!! …Already I miss Windows XP…

:’(

[EDIT:]
btw, am I lucky or what that I just backed up all my files onto cd last weekend? Yeah, totally. Only thing I lost, I think, are all the pictures that have been scanned the last two batches of film-developings. Would have lost all of the photos, except that I do have my last backup, as long as the cd is still good: 1-17-04.
Oh @#$%. I did lose some photos (mostly ancestral) that people have sent me. GRRRR.

Happy Anniversary

To us!
You wanna know what’s wierd?
We share our anniversary with my parents. ;-) Yes, the same day (6-3), but of course, thiers is 23 years earlier…

Anyway, on the next three posts you will find lyrics and the songs themselves that we played out our wedding, in honor of this 4th anniversary. :-D

Enjoy, heehee

Over and Over

The following is in honor of our 4th wedding anniversary today:

Over and Over
Annie Herring c. 1992

Tell me you love me, say it again,
For I’m no good without your love.
Tell me you love me, say it again,
Over and over, over and over,
over and over without end.

I know we’ll face hard times when the sun will not shine,
And it’s through those dark times I need to know you’re mine.
And I won’t let the sun go down without saying to you
Over and over, over and over,
Over and over, I love you.

I believe in dreams now, now that I’m holdin’ you.
And I believe in love now, I believe in you.
I freely give you my heart, my lover and friend,
Over and over, over and over,
Over and over without end.

Over and over without end.

The above was a song in our wedding. A solo played and sung by a friend of ours. Other songs we had were Lonestar: Amazed (instrumental), Bleach: Wonderful (recessional); and Pachebel’s Canon in D (instrumental, processional).

Wonderful

The following is in honor of our 4th wedding anniversary. We played this song in our wedding as the recessional (we walked out to it). Our parents about had a heart attack the night of the rehearsal (they had no idea), but we went ahead with it. A week later, our good friends K & A gave their parents heart attacks, with our cd, hehe, well, maybe their parents were a little more prepared after attending our wedding. :-)

Wonderful
c. Bleach

As we walk hand in hand
She holds me tightly
Cause she’s my girl
As we walk hand in hand
She smiles so brightly
Cause I’m her guy
As we walk hand in hand
We’ll help each other
This love’s so true
As we walk hand in hand
He loves us dearly
This three’s now one.

It’s wonderful
So wonderful
It’s wonderful
So wonderful

As we walk hand in hand
I feel a joy come over me
As we walk hand in hand
I know we’re where
God wants us to be
As we walk hand in hand
She’s thinking of me, wherever she goes
As we walk hand in hand
I whisper softly what she already knows

It’s wonderful
So wonderful
It’s wonderful
So wonderful
It’s wonderful
So wonderful
It’s wonderful
So wonderful!

I thank you Lord for all You’ve done
You gave it all You gave Your Son
And now you’ve given me this girl
It’s wonderful

As we walk hand in hand
She holds me tightly ’cause she’s my girl
As we walk hand in hand
She smiles so brightly ’cause I’m her guy
As we walk hand in hand
We’ll help each other
This love’s so true
As we walk hand in hand
He loves us dearly
This three’s now one

As we walk hand in hand
