hmmm… what?

Ugh, spammers

Ugh, I am so sick of stupid spammers. At least once a week now I get an email saying that a new email address has been added to your PayPal account, this laptopsellers@yahoo.com email address. Anyway, they then tell you that if you didn’t authorize the change to click on the link and notify PayPal. Of course, you aren’t notifying PP because it redirects you to another disguised domain name that is set to steal your username and password and anything else they can grab.
So the first one I got, I reported it to Yahoo Webhosting, where it had been registered the day before, and they took it offline immediately. Same thing with the one last week.
I just reported another one to register.it, so we’ll see how it goes. I’ve also started emailing the person who’s address is listed as being the register of the domain name. Sure they could just use a fake email address, but I tell you what, last week’s one I mailed out - did not return to me.

So anyway, let’s spam these people!!

And just because they’re jerks trying to steal identities, etc, here’s the whois info, complete with addresses (although I don’t know if they’re valid or not)…

Anyway, a real update later, I suppose. I’ve been working, while Elijah sleeps today, on my new site that’s going to be an online community for some family members, now that I’ve finally got the domain name registered.

I got the PayPal notification too and thought some fraud was going on. Wrote PayPal and got useless info back. Had me going all day. Thanks to you, I can forget about it now.

Hi, Zhanna - glad my post cleared up some confusion for you. Some more tips that I’ve learned since I originally posted this include:

    – mouse over the links in the emails sent to you and see what your status bar on your browser says. A lot of time they may say something like paypal.com but when you mouseover, you see it’s something completely different and not related to PayPal, sometimes even just an IP address.

    – PayPal will always contact you by your full name that’s on your account, none of this “Dear PayPal user,” stuff. I believe Ebay does this, too.

    – Emails should come directly to you with you in the to field and not undisclosed-recipients or someone else’s email address, etc.

If you are in doubt, absolutely do not click on any links. Go straight to the PayPal website by typing it in your browser. :)

Greetings Val! Bravo my friend! And athousand thanks to you for taking the time to inform people. I was fortunate to have a past that taught me about fraud, signs, etc., yet those that have no idea need to be made aware; I got taken for $11,000.00 quite a few years ago and learned my lesson the hard way! I agree with Annie. T__T Thanks again! (By the way, great name! It happens to be not only my mom’s name, but my son’s “drag” name as well!! …..now think of how much better you’ll sleep knowing that tonight!!LOL).
