New Style & Script

Style
Hey, everyone, I created a new style here, so please, tell me what you think. It’s called Mother & Child #2. The images also come from the beginning credits of Freaky Friday, but I combined about three or more of them.

Mother & Child 2 (or more appropriately, Mothers & Children)
Resolutions: 1024×768+ only*
Browsers: should fit all
Colors: kinda ’skin tone-y’
Images: 1 (top)
Files included in zip: 3 - top.gif (contains transparency), style.css, readme.txt (includes instructions)

To preview:
If you are not currently seeing the style, scroll to the near bottom of my menu and click “mother_child_2.”

To download:
Under the girl section, click downloads. That will take you to the appropriate place. If you download, please rate it for me.

hmmm… this might be my favorite one so far… but again is only 1024×768, will have to create a 800×600 version before long. Of course, I think everytime I create a new one I think it’s my ‘favorite so far.’

[EDIT=9:37am/7-24] I forgot to mention that I also put the Pirates of the Carribbean layout up as well, for download. It’s quite different looking, kinda… [/EDIT]
[EDIT=1:03pm/7-24] 800×600 version is now finished… boy, that was easy[/EDIT]

Script
I finished the script, it turned out to be MUCH MUCH easier than I thought it would be. Turns out there is a php function to do exactly what I needed instead of having to use 2 or more functions.

Anyway, what this thing is…

Deep Thoughts by Jack Handy
Yeah, it displays one a day.

I created it to practice and wanted to do something that would display daily, not randomly with refresh.

So anyway, there is more information here: http://spoken-for.org/x-sf-deepthoughts.php, and I’m getting ready to add it to the downloads section. So hit there and give it a whirl for me, will ya?
The only requirement is that you must retain the link to spoken-for.org that is in the script itself. You don’t have to link anywhere else.
Installation directions, etc are on the page mentioned above.

Please rate it if you try it out.

I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m going to have to write this script I want, if I want one that will do what I want, lol. However, it will be much more complicated that this silly Deep Thoughts thing, so we shall see.

Anyway, audi for now. Think I might hit some reviews.

Grandma Jones

I just got word a few minutes ago that my great-grandmother Jones passed away this morning around 7:15.

While I am upset, I’ve seen this coming. In the last few days, they said she was in a coma-like state and was basically dehydrating because they wouldn’t give her a feeding tube. Why they wouldn’t, I don’t know, but honestly, it’s probably better this way. Grandma would have been 90 in May 2005. She had a stroke in… I guess probably 1995 or 1996, and lost the use of the right side of her body, she had Alzheimer’s for almost as long as I can remember.
My great-grandfather’s funeral was one of the worst I’ve ever been to. It was in 1997 and with her Alzheimer’s, Grandma kept forgetting about it, and she would sit there in her wheelchair like everything was fine. But then she’d see the casket and remember, and start crying all over again. It was horrible.
As of the past couple of years, Grandma’s just been pretty much “out there.” She didn’t recognize anyone anymore. The last time she sort-of recognized me, she actually thought I was my mom, and that my mom was my great-aunt. I guess she was back-in-time and I looked like my mom when she was younger. We had an opportunity to go down and see her in October, and took pictures of Elijah with his great-great-grandma. While Grandma just looks very bad, sickly-like, they are some precious pictures.

But now, Grandma is happy, once again.

busted! pain… great pain

When Mom and I went to see Cats, I had been going through her purse for something, and I pulled out this Pampered Chef cheese knife she had in there. I said, “What the heck are you trying to do? Get us arrested?” She laughed and said that that had been in there from some picnic they went on the other day and she kept forgetting about it. And her attitude was, “It can’t hurt anyone anyway.” But you know how they are these days. I knew that they checked coolers at the Muny, but couldn’t remember if they checked purses or not. So we took it out and left it in her glove box.
So yesterday, I had a chance to go see George W. Bush, like I did four years ago… Do you see where I am going with this yet? Anyway, mom called on such short notice that I didn’t feel I could get ready in time to go, and I also didn’t know what I would do with Elijah. So I turned her down. She seemed a bit upset about it because she’d told George she’d take four tickets, and it looked like only she and G were going to be able to go.
Anyway, today she calls me and tells me that by the time they got there, they were about to close the gates (once they close the doors, no one else gets in) and so there were a lot of people running to get in.
The Secret Service busted my mom. Yes, they did. They confiscated her cheese knife, and now she has to buy another one. lol
I was like, “Do I have to follow you around everywhere and take that thing out of your purse?” And she’s all, “I use it all the time, I took it to [my uncle's] the other day because of the dish I brought,” etc.

My mom, busted by the Secret Service.

Now that’s funny.

Happy Birthday, sweet baby boy!!

Happy birthday, E!
He was born one year ago today at 3:32pm, 5lbs and 7oz and 19 3/4″ long.
eh?

The above picture was actually taken when he was about six months old, but I like it. ;-)

R & M

They loved the photos! Well, at least the ones where their eyes weren’t closed, etc.
I had thought of this already, but I talked to M about it and she likes the idea, but we’re not telling R. I wanted to, if there were any they liked, for a present from me and Steve, blow it up real big and frame it. And here is the one she said R liked the best:

[picture removed]

So I guess I will drop it off Thursday to be done. I hope it gets back before the wedding (August 7) because I’d like to display it at the reception. I’m talking at least 16″x20″. So of course it will probably get cropped a bit. Would drop it off earlier than Thursday, but won’t be in the area until then.

As for the shower, it was nuts and now I’m really tired and waiting on S’s family to get over here. So I’ll write about that later. Plus I want to tell everyone that I hate hackers. lol

[EDIT: 7-19-04, 9:22am] Guess I should specify that R is my brother and M is his sweet fiance, my sister-in-law-to-be.

Photos

I just finished scanning in the photos that I picked up tonight real quick as I am taking them with me tomorrow. Figured I’d better scan them now in case M wanted to take them with her.
So I am posting a few of them. (Any weird dots in dark areas is my scanner, not the photo.)

Well, here is one of R and M, one of -imo- the better ones. Aren’t they cute? :cute: This one is in the cemetery, I believe. :aww:

And here is one of E that I took later that day. I call it Can’t Sit Still. It’s actually 11 month photos. In the cemetery.

Now, if you are prepared to be grossed out…

Just - er - stuff

The play last night was pretty good considering it’s a community college production and all. ;-) It turned out to be about the worst mother in the history of mothers. It was a true story and apparently the mother basically ’sold’ her daughter out to be a stripper when she was only 15.

She starts out as a stage mom who thinks her daughters are just ‘all that’ and is pushing them to be in showbusiness (Vaudville), presumably because she wanted to be in it herself. After much pushing and prodding and placing the younger, blonde daughter in the spotlight and the older, brown haired daughter back into the chorus, and making them both act like little girls, the blonde gets sick of it and at 13 runs off and marries a guy from the chorus. The mother then turns her aspirations on the other daughter.

They end up in Burlesque, presumably by accident, but go ahead and perform there. The day they are leaving, the head stripper can’t go on, so the mother says, “My daughter can do it.” So she tells her to do it but remember that she’s a lady and not to take anything off, just tease them. Time passes and of course, the girl becomes more of a stripper.

If you read more about her life, online or somewhere, you find out that she was one of the best well-known strippers of that time. She went on later to star in some b-films and do things like that. When she died she left over a million dollar estate.
She wrote down her memoirs, which is what the play is based on - and apparently, “Gypsy” is a very famous broadway play.

Shows you how much I know!

But I didn’t know what the play was about, obviously, when I went. Sarah and Sheila went with me. Yeah, I don’t think either of them (or myself included) were impressed with what it ended up being in the end. But I don’t think Sarah understood as much either. She did not like the three strippers that were there or their song or how they were dressed, lol. It wasn’t bad, not like what she’s seen in Chicago, but I guess it was different to her because it was on stage or something.

HA come to find out, the main stripper… I kept saying, she looks familiar. She was my friggin biology lab teacher!! That was scary, but she was really good. The main guy in there (wants to marry the mother, but she never will marry him, he leaves when she says the girl can strip) was my teacher for Logic and Ethics. He was pretty good, too.

We didn’t get out of there until 11:00 (I assumed it would be 10, 10:30 at the very latest). Then I had to stop at Walmart and get gas, so I didn’t get home until about 12:30, not bad I guess, considering most of that was driving. But Sarah has testing today for her green belt, actually, she’s probably testing right now. Elizabeth is testing for black belt today, too. Sheila is working today, she will test for black belt in September.

Scripts & Stuff

Okay, I’ve decided that I’m going to try and write my own php script.
It’s going to be something very simple to start with and I have an idea in mind. However, don’t know if anyone but me would find it useful. ;-)
So we shall see. Hopefully I’ll be releasing it in the next week.
Anyone with any script ideas - comment here and let me know if there’s something I should try, strive for.

In other site news, I do have another WordPress style to release, but I’m working out a few bugs. Hopefully this will be taken care of around the early part of next week. And then, I will also be updating the rest of the styles, which I have noticed there’s been a boom in downloads, and so they will just need a refresh of the stylesheet, which I can email to you so you don’t have to download. Anyway, will post more on that when it’s taken are of.

[EDIT] WOW - there has been a BIG spike in style downloads just since I last checked it! And so far the only one to rate is Jared - people, if you download, please rate them (it’s anonymous, really, it is) so that I can know what I need to improve on, what people like and what they don’t! Also, get yourself a free plug if you email me and show me your site that is using a style I created, okies? [/EDIT]

Also, looking for some affiliates - drop me a line, here or elsewhere.
Am also looking to possibly host an award and/or a review site here at spoken-for. If you are interested, let me know. Requirements would be fairly close to awesome html and css skills, probably some php, plenty of free time to work on it, and the usual junk.

Oh, yes, and my ‘project’ is up and running. However, this, if it works out, is long term, and so the plans are for it to last probably a year before it’s released.
