Since I figure most people don’t read all of every entry, I’ll start with the more interesting stuff; here’s a pre-emp float trip post, more to come…
So at one point during the float Steve and I jumped out of the raft. We had a 14-man raft with about 11 of us in it at that time.
It was really shallow at this point and the water was starting to move faster and I saw that I would never be able to catch up with my boat, so I hopped on another one that was nearby me.
That’s when I see Sarah, she’s walking in the shallow part towards us. I told her to get in, we’d ride up to our boat and transfer. So she tries. The water suddenly gets deeper. She’s hanging on for dear life. As me and this other girl are trying to pull her in, she’s getting sucked under the raft. The current and movement of the raft, with most of her underneath it was making it impossible for us to pull her in.
Her eyes are starting to get huge and she’s looking scared (for those of you who don’t know, she’s 9, can’t swim, and why the hell she wasn’t wearing her life jacket, I will never know).
So I jumped in.
I didn’t expect the water to be taller than me. I went under. Somehow though I managed not to swallow 50 gallons of it. I’m treading there, pushing her up into the raft when it hit me.
Yeah an underwater tree attacked me.
So there I am, pinned between a huge honking felled tree and the raft. The raft is squishing me good.
I’m freaking out, but not because of me, I’m all, “get Sarah! Get her in the boat!” But I don’t think they could understand me.
Just as I’ve decided that I will hold my break and duck for the boat to go over me, Aaron, Anna’s boyfriend (pretty big guy, too), jumped out and because he had both hands available and could actually touch was able to push the boat offa me. Then he pulls me off the tree and into shallower water.
Man, that hurt like hell.
Sarah, thankfully, was in the boat now and she’s sitting there shaking - she didn’t get into the water for the rest of the day. She kept saying she was fine, but I knew she was terrified.
Me, I am sore on the side of me that got jammed into the tree (I’m surprised that it didn’t bruise) and then all across the top of my back. A limb of the tree jammed into my right shoulder blade. The pain was okay this morning unless I looked far to the left, but it has now spread throughout the top of my back.
But that was the big adventure part of the day. I’ll post more tomorrow on it. (Of course, if the pain in my stomach continues to where I can’t sleep, I may post more tonight…)
In other news, Sheila said it sounds like her boss wants me. ;-)
I very well could get this job.

Yay for your *potential* job! And… yikes. It sounds like something straight out of a drama movie!!!
Oh, and for the record: I read all of your posts in full. ;)
Wow, such an interesting adventure. As usual, if Val is around, things happen :-D
Cool, Val a Bar Tender. Neto. Lets go drinking!!
Ooh, crap! That does sound pretty… life threatening… but there were two heros in this story :) One being you and the other one the boyfriend *sorry, forgot his name*
Good job, very nice thing you did… sorry you got hurt tho! Hope it gets better soon! And, good luck on that job thing :P
Gawds, I think you’re amazingly brave. I’m not a parent and never been in such a position, so I don’t know what I would do. I admire you already!
What an awful thing to happen though… I hope Sarah doesn’t end up with a fear of water, that would be awful for such a young girl.
I’m hoping for a new job too, so I’ll cross my fingers for you if you do for me :P
thank god you are fine, I think most people would say they jump in the water to get the kid (she is nine and can’t swim? howcome?) but when it comes to it they would stay where they are (safe), very brave thing of you to jump in the water. And thank god for Aarron :D…..
love,
Samantha
I hope that Sarah has since learned how to swim. Scary stuff, water, when you’re not inclined to float.
