Need a script? Don’t go to needscripts.com…
Okay, so I just got this email, and here’s what it said:

Dear spoken-for.org,

We’ve added the following listings at Need Scripts (www.needscripts.com):

All that stuff sounds right, doesn’t it?
Well it’s not simply because I didn’t submit SFLinks to their website! :grrrr:

And do you know what the kicker is? I mean, I could have lived with that, fine. But they changed the download URL. I use a “masked” url to keep stats. You know, to see if the script is actually being downloaded and used. They put the direct URL in there that goes straight to the zip file!

To me, this is a downright sneaky way to get visitors to their sites.

And you know what I have to do?
I have to sign up for an id, and then email them and tell them I want control of my script that I did not even submit to them in the first place!
All this after reading the bunk about them being very careful to find the best scripts on the internet and adding them for the benefit of their visitors.

First thing I did was change the zip file URL.
So anyone who clicks from there will get a 404, sorry.

Oh yeah, and note that they didn’t even call me by name, but by “Dear spoken-for.org” AND they used the email address that is ONLY used for the contact form on this site. This is because when it starts getting too much spam (which I know it will be picked up because of the mailform script I’m using doesn’t protect it because I’m too lazy busy to write up one that does) I’ll just delete it and use another one.

I thought about letting the listing stay… but now I think that once I get control of it, I’ll just delete it. I didn’t create it to be patronized and used.

Okay enough venting.

I wasn’t going to post tonight, I am extremely tired, I’ve had a heckuva day. But maybe just maybe later I will post about my first day alone as director/producer/editor (and all around flame thrower/catcher).

Do you think that site added it? Couldn’t it be that some visitor of your site added it to that website?…. strange…..!
