hmmm… what?

Frustration, thy name is Elijah

Oh the boy is driving me crazy. Anyone know how to teach a one and a half year old child to pick up his toys when he’s done playing with them? Or how about how not to have a bottle when trying to sleep.

Some of you have seen and will remember what his room looks like on a typical basis.

It’s like this nearly all of the time, no matter how many times I clean it up. Or Sarah cleans it up. Heck, it seems to bug her, she’s always cleaning his room when she’s over here for some reason.

It seems like I have spent the better part of today cleaning that room. I finally got sick of it and decided I was going to try and teach him to keep things a bit cleaner. Of course, that didn’t go over too well.

Everytime I would pick something up, he’d go over and get it back out again. If I moved on to something else, so did he. There was stuff that I put up and when he tried to get it, I said, “No, I just picked that up, play with this instead.” Then, of course, he would scream.

Finally most of it was picked up and I looked around… where were his Mega Blocks that he got from my aunt and uncle for Christmas? I looked everywhere and totally could not find them. I called Steve and asked him if he had seen them lately because after I thought about it, I hadn’t seen them in a while. “No, I haven’t… are they down the vent?”

Sure enough! I can see several of them sitting there before being lost into eternity. I’m sure there are other small blocks down there as well that go to his shape sorter.

I managed to get out 5 of them while distracting him by throwing the ball with my other hand. The vent is this little thing, skinny, not like what I feel is a typical vent. There is no cover on it, obviously, because we need to fix it. I never thought he really bothered it before. GRRRR… I’ve been wondering where the little Mega Blocks dude went to for several days now. Steve says he’ll get them out though.

A clean room, he was grumpy so I made him lay in his bed but he never took a nap. Instead he started playing with some toys for a while.

He got sick of that so I let him out to play. I walked off and returned before long expecting to see the place torn apart. So I took the camera and this is what I saw:

Some clothes, by the way, huh? :-D

Okay, not TOO bad but not only is he practically throwing the little coat hanger my aunt got him that we hang his baby towels on that he’s not supposed to play with or remove from the left corner of the room, but he also moved the shelves. And not only did he move the shelves but he took them apart. He took them apart! He took apart the shelves that didn’t want to go together in the first place! The other legs were over by the changing table.

GRRR

So I got to put them back together… they are now in a completely different order lol - and then clean up the room again. And of course, he started getting everything out AGAIN.

This is more what it should have been.

Sheesh. I think I’m going to pull my hair out.

he sounds like my fiance..leaving stuff everywhere that i have to put away and then asking me where they are…but he’s a doll and i love him anyways…*laugh*

He looks like Godzilla in the last picture, RAR! He’s pretty destructive! I can’t believe he took apart his shelves and knocked over his coat hanger! He’s a cutie though. :P Hopefully he’ll learn soon that his mommy doesn’t like him destroying his room, and knocking little blocks down vents. :D

call dr. phill :P…. can’t stand that guy but his stuff seems to work from time to time….

don’t have no experience with 1 year olds… so have no clue how you should learn him this but: only play with one toy, clean it up and then he can get another…?? yeah.. I know… mission impossible!

I make a game of it with Sam. “Who can collect the blocks the fastest?!” and “Look who’s the big boy, putting his toys in his box!!” He responds really well to that and seems to enjoy the attention for being such a good boy. :)

I think it’s easy at the moment thought because he simply LOVES putting things in/taking things out of boxes/bags etc. right now, so it’s fairly straight-forward to make a game from it.

    V xx

p.s. Shame http://oh-mama.com isn’t busy enough for you to post there and get a response. :( Don’t know what to do with that place - it seemed like such a good idea. :P
