St. Louis Pictures II

Vandeventer Place & Fountain After the Jewel Box, we just walked around the park a little bit, snapping photos wherever. First we ended up at this little structure that was named Vandeventer Place. Not sure what exactly it was (other than a bunch of columns) but it must have had something to do with the 1904 World’s Fair, I’m sure. Maybe it was a musicians’ stand or something. ;-)

Anyway, here are the pictures from there and just beyond there… I probably won’t post any tomorrow as it’s FFAF, and maybe not until Tuesday when I get to rollover into February. ;-) There are a considerable amount of these more than the last batch and I’m not cropping down the vertical ones (too hard with these) so you’ll have to click “more” to see the photos. :-D

EDIT: images were removed from my server then put up later on Flickr. Though it states that they were removed, see the bottom of the post for the collection. I would have put them back in here in order except I was having trouble figuring out what went with what caption in this one. So you figure it out. :)

Too much shadows, yes, I know. Same with the next one. I guess I should have gone closer. But of course, anywhere else I would have placed them would have turned out worse. Sarah has a habit of squinting even when there is not so much light so I try to keep her out of the sun so much.

Same here on Sheila’s… But I guess this one is actually worse than the one before.

Yes, way too much shadows here, as well. I knew this would happen, though. It’s really not so bad though if you look at the original image at 100% zoom.

This is from the same spot above only… closer.

Getting Sarah up there was… funny.

I don’t really like this one, she’s sitting funny.

See what I mean? The girl has a hard time not closing her eyes partially even when not looking into the sun.

I knew the shadows would be bad with this one but I did it anyway because I thought it was really cute.

Same spot.

We thought this tree was pretty cool… the island in the background… Sarah was like, “Sheila, go jump onto that.” lol

Same as before only closer…

Same tree, from different perspective. You can see the Vandeventer Place in the background as well as the Jewel Box if you look really hard.

I guess I would have to say that this one is the best from this section…

Even funnier than her getting up on those columns was her trying to get up on that tree branch. “Muscles” Sheila decided she couldn’t lift Sarah up there and gave up only to leave Sarah hanging about three inches off the ground… kicking her feet.

    Hi there!
I removed you from my LJ friends, since LJ cannot chop your entries into shorter pieces and they are quite… lengthy. So it doesn’t mean I wouldn’t come and read your entries or that I hate your or anything, but LJ just isn’t fit for your entries. :)

Don’t see what the big deal with shadow is. The pictures look fine to me.
They look to posed. Looks uncomfortable. Who sits with their hands inside their legs? Like in pic three? Samne goes with the one u like. Just looks uncomfortable.

I found your blog showing the Vandeventer Place gate in Forest Park in St. Louis. The gates were originally one set of entrance gates entering Vandeventer Place which was a private street that had numerous turn of the century mansions on it. These gates are the only thing left of the street. The beautiful old mansions were torn down so that a Veterans Hospital could be constructed. There is much more fascinating history about the street you may want to check out the Missouri Historical Society webpage to get more detail. There are pictures on the website of some of the mansions.
