Grrrr… he has been driving me crazy today! Well, actually, it seems every Saturday and Sunday for the last several weeks!
I have lots to talk about, really, I do. I just feel so… drained. It’s not because it’s after 1 am, no, I’ve felt like this again for the last several days. I need to get out more, I think. I’ve just had so much work this week it’s crazy. Simply crazy…
Anyway, Jared has said that he will take my VHS tapes of stuff we taped at the end of high school and put them on DVD for me. If other certain people around here aren’t going to get their acts together, then sending the tapes 800 miles to Jared is the next best thing.
So I need to time them and figure out what’s what.
Tonight I turned on my graduation tape and ended up watching our graduation practice, graduation ceremony, goofing off afterwards, Aa’s graduation party, my graduation party, field day 1999, goofing off after Shakespeare class, and Mother’s Day 1999. Two tapes, about 2 hours and 45 minutes. I also have, of course, The Jack Ball Project, One Chord (less than 10 min I think), my wedding, and old films of my grandparents and such that my uncle had put on VHS years ago. The thing I can’t figure out, though, is where the Christmas party/talent show of RG from 1999 is… or… there was something else I think… Maybe they’re in the sitting room.
Boy, is Jared in for a surprise… a look into my strange friends and family - he’ll be scared silly! Jared, you should just start the tapes and run while covering your ears. Scary camera work, scary audio, and even scarier people, it’s all very strange.
I’m gonna have to show some of that stuff to my brother and sister though - they were such freaking brats, right on camera, too! They never believe stuff like that unless I have proof.
Which reminds me of the time we were in my mom’s Volvo and I must have been about 9… I think that would have been right because my dear cousin C was still alive (she died when we were 10). Anyway she and her sister, Older C, had spent the night with us and we were taking them home. Me and Older C were in the front seat… yes, sharing the front seat, while in the back were my three siblings and Younger C. We hear the oldest of my younger brothers and C laughing on the ride but didn’t think anything of it. When we got to the house, we found out what was so funny.
My sister, probably about 4 at the time… no, wait, if I was 9, she would have been…. 3 I guess… Something like that. Anyway, she had gotten into Older C’s makeup (she’s 4 years older than me) and had tried putting on eye shadow. My sister has always, always, always been interested in makeup and such.
So she looked like this: Continue reading ‘Did you see those little kids take down Joe? Yeah, the funniest thing I’ve ever seen!‘
…there was a girl named Val, who worked at Hardee’s. Yes, she worked there for over two long years, sometimes she loved it, sometimes she hated it.
One such time when it was hated a man came through the drive-thru. He ordered two identical meals with really large, strange burgers and another burger made the same way.
He asked the little girl to repeat back the order and she did. He asked her again to repeat the order, and again she did.
Then he pulled around and again asked the nice girl to repeat the order. She did yet again and he said, “no, I only wanted two of those, not three.”
So since the fast little girl had the order all ready for him, she removed one of the burgers from both the bag and the order. The strange man paid and then left. The burger was back in the bin even though the little girl and her co-worker knew it would just go to waste.
Two minutes later, the strange man burst through the doors and announced that he had ordered three burgers and only gotten two. He said this to the co-worker girl.
Co-worker girl asked the little girl where was the burger and the astonished little girl could only point at it in the bin. Co-worker girl gave it to the strange man who promptly stormed out of the store.
The little girl was speechless. However, soon she was pissed off. More pissed off than she’d ever been before… well, maybe.
The little girl still gets pissed off about that, even 6-7 years later. She wishes she had more guts to stand up for herself. Sometimes she wishes she could relive those few moments and punch that guy in the face.
There, that’s my ‘other-side-of-the-counter‘ story… well, one of them… inevitable fast food horrors…
I’ve never had to take summer classes before. Even when I was in college the other time, I simply avoided them and was still able to finish the Associate’s in two years.
This year, I am considering it. I actually don’t know what to do…
As far as Summer classes go, I can take Intro to Business (unfortunately this class is required for my degree) and Intro to Photoshop CS.
This Fall, the available night classes for my major are:
CIS236: Oracle, SQL, & Database Design (Monday)
CIS153: Intro to Visual BASIC Prog. (Tuesday)
CIS135: Intro to Photoshop CS (Wednesday)
CIS157: Intro to JAVA Programming (Thursday)

Yup. Most definitely.
I am so excited, we are finally getting some new carpet!
So on Saturday, the Lowe’s paper came with the rest of the mail. Going through it, Steve found two different kinds of Berber carpet that were listed as being only 45ยข a square foot!
I said it had to be a misprint. It just had to be.

At places where tips are expected, I always leave a tip, it’s usually more than deserved, too. I’m not sure why I do this, I just do. Except for last night, that is…
When I arrived at 9.30pm, everyone else was already there and had ordered. We were at Steak ‘n’ Shake.
After waiting several more minutes and still no waitress had arrived, I finally figured that I could go to the counter and order and they could just put my stuff with everyone else’s when it came out. I had started to order when the guy realized I was from that table, I was told that he couldn’t take my order, that I had to go sit down and wait for my server. You know, because, apparently, ordering from the counter and then sitting at a table with my group might result in anarchy.
That was the stupidest thing I ever heard! But I went and sat back down.
Finally, the waitress came out bringing food… but they hadn’t even gotten their drinks yet!! Okay, correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t it common to bring the waters and sodas, then the shakes and and desserts for those who got those, and then the food?! Um, yeah, thought so.
To make matters worse, half of the orders were wrong! K didn’t get her onion rings or chili and instead got A’s cold fries. P and my mom-in-law didn’t get their coffee. Sarah didn’t get her shake, C’s order was completely messed up, etc. They told her what all was wrong and I said I still needed to order. She just kind of smiled at me with this fake smile and then left. I found out later that K also had told her that I already needed to order.
And, you know, they even tried to joke with her a little bit, P told her to, “always blame it on the cooks, always blame it on the cooks, always.” They were easy going at this point, cheerful actually.
However, a few more minutes and she came back with waters and sodas and one shake. She still didn’t have Sarah’s shake or A’s shake! She left again without even acknowledging that I needed to order.
She came again with… something else… still didn’t take my order and still didn’t bring Sarah’s shake. She refused to even look at me, ever. I was told I need to be more aggressive.
At this point, I’m growling. We’ve had bad service there before, but never this bad. The last time we had bad service we waited on our food for over an hour and ended up getting it all free. Boy, they lost out on that one.
See, for years every third Monday (except June & July), this group has been coming. (By ‘this group’ I mean the homeschooler-ladies, they have their meeting each third Monday and have been going to SnS afterward for at least the last eight friggin years!) And when RG was going on, at one point, it was an even bigger group - for a while there, RG was there every Monday night. These people know this. You’d think they’d schedule someone who knows what they’re doing on Monday nights!
So, seeing Aa come back from ordering at the counter, I said, “no fair!” (He arrived not long after I did with his and K’s two kids.) So I went again to order. By this time, there was a manager up there. So not only did I get to finally place my order, but I complained about her. Of course, he egged it on, asking me questions and such. I figured she was new, I wasn’t really going to complain, I was just HUNGRY! Sarah went with me and we mentioned that she still didn’t have her shake either.
While we were up there, her shake arrived (half melted, mind you), but because of my complaint, she got another one that mom ended up drinking. I ended up having to pay for that - I think there was a misunderstanding. So I ate the cherry.
When the girl finally brought my food, she forgot my water, so I got to take pills with a shake. She was mad, too. I was being nice, I swear, but she just sat everything down with a bang and didn’t even acknowledge me when I said, “thank you.”
How rude.
She also never even checked up on any of us after that. Actually, none of her visits to our table were for the purpose of checking on us, seeing if anyone needed a refill, etc. She only came those few times to bring stuff out.
So when we left, I didn’t leave a tip. My mom-in-law left $2, but then later re-thought it and left $1, giving Sarah the other dollar.
We actually had a smaller group than normal, too, so it shouldn’t have been as hard to manage as you might think. And the girl could have made off really well because usually everyone leaves a decent tip, if only she hadn’t been so rude and uncaring.
There have been times before where I’ve considered not leaving a tip, but I’ve never had guts enough to actually not do it before. And I didn’t leave a tip last night without guilt of conscience.
And don’t you dare say to me that I don’t know the other side of it, I worked in food for over two years… And I have common sense. :-P
So, how about you? Tell me your food service horror stories! Maybe someday I’ll tell you a horror story about being on the other side.
I’ve started to get emails that are asking if I’m still alive, so I figure I’d better post…
My last post was Saturday night, I was gone all day Sunday, and on Monday my littlest brother was over again with his Xbox so he and Steve swiped my DSL modem for that in the other room. My computer doesn’t play nice if I try to use dialup, it kicks him off.
So I spent the day doing… eh… I have no idea, everything looks the same. I figured I’d get some cleaning done… yeah right. I ended up finishing up a scrapbook that I haven’t added to since Elijah was born, yeah, over a whole year and a half ago. And I did make two dozen candles later in the day…
Drove my bro up to meet my mom at 9.30pm and was out late after that… I guess I’ll write about my little Steak ‘n’ Shake “adventure” soon, after I catch up on some of this stuff. Just wanted you all to know that I am, indeed, still alive and kicking.
