School Woes
Ah, yes, heading back into the place, once again, where I said I’d never return.
A bit ago, I registered online for classes for Summer and Fall semesters of 2005. Well, kinda.
For this summer, I’ll be taking BUS101: Intro to Business. Yay. How exciting. Can’t you just feel the sarcasm? This is a required class for my degree, one of two business classes, the only non-computer classes, since I have all my other required stuff done from when I got my doesn’t-get-me-anywhere first degree.
The good thing about this class is that it’s distance learning so I don’t have to actually go to campus. And, since it’s a summer course, it’s only six weeks long. Yay.
Then for this Fall, I’ve already registered for CIS153: Intro to Visual Basic Programming. I tried to register for CIS135: Intro to Photoshop, but nooooo the computer won’t let me. It’s telling me that it can’t find my final scores for the pre-req of CIS133: Microcomp Software Apps. Well, duh. That would be because I haven’t taken that class. It was already waived for me for Fall 2004 so I could take Intro to Web Development.
I mean, c’mon. This is the description of CIS133:
“Microcomputer Software Applications gives practical experiences using widely utilized microcomputer software application programs: word processing (Word), spreadsheet (Excel), database (Access) and presentation (PowerPoint). Also, students learn basic Windows functions and briefly explore the Internet. Students may find it necessary to work in the computer lab outside of class in order to complete the assignments. This course meets the computer literacy graduation requirement.”
If you can’t test out of that… you shouldn’t be going for a degree in computers…
I could have and probably should have tested out of Intro to Web Development for that matter. The only thing I learned in there was a tiny bit of Javascript.
So I had to email — ah, crap, I just realized I spelled “waived” wrong in my email to the registration people… anyway, I emailed them to say, “excuse me, what’s up with dat!?” So we’ll see…
Everytime I mention school around here, Steve raises an eyebrow, looks at me funny, and says, “don’t you already have enough to do?”
In a word?
Yes.
