Well I talked to my mom last night (Sunday) and she said that my step-grandmother is now breathing on her own. And here’s to me, breathing a sigh of relief. However, her kidneys are now giving out so she will have to go on dialysis. However, it could be temporary and from what I understand, dialysis is a pretty live-with-able thing.
[UPDATE] Today she is starting 24 hour dialysis. Her liver doesn’t seem too good either, but she’s been moved out of the critical care unit. I suspect still in intensive care, however. [/UPDATE]
We were up there again on Saturday and spent a few minutes with her - it is hard to spend much time in there, either you’re ushered out or things become so awkward you decide to let someone else have a go. But we sat in the waiting room for longer after that: me, mom, my sister, my grandpa, two relatives of his wife’s, my adopted uncle, his wife, my aunt (mom’s sis), and eventually her daughter, my cousin the cop.
During all of this I finally found out the birthday of my step-grandma (I know, my family is weird) she is only 53, 54 in November.
To Sam: hope you don’t mind me replying to you this way. Sorry I woke you up at 4am with my text message. :D Sometimes I forget that our time differences are so… different. I am glad that you actually got the message this time, though! And if it’s any consolation, you woke me up with yours this morning at 5.15am. :) I would have replied, but I’ve sent WAY too many texts this billing period. But, here you have it, the update. Thanks, girl.
Me, I feel weird today, don’t feel like really sitting here and reading the thousands of emails I have waiting or checking the thousands of blogs I read. So, I’m off to do something productive…

Glad she is doing better!
Hugs
I’m glad your step-grandmother is doing better but I hope she gets even better.. Dialysis sounds painful =S Wow, she’s really young o.o; My grandma is 65.
I am so glad she is doing better! Hopefully all the other stuff will be resolved soon!
Hooray for the progress she’s making =).
Can’t wait to hear the next report.
I hope your grandmother will be ok, at least being taken out of critical care is a good sign.
Sorry Val! (I can’t count :$ I figured with the 6 hour difference it would have been 8 am there but I guess there is a 7 hour difference…. and I miscalculated two hours :$…
It’s ok you woke me up though… I read the message and fell asleep straight after…. you’re not the only one that messaged me at night (some people call too, and they are dutch!)
Your grandma has a long road ahead of her. My grandpa got his first medical problems when he was in his 40’s as time progressed he had to take more and more pills…. when we heared he had to go on dialyses we refused he couldn’t handle any more medical threatments…. he didn’t want to neither….. He died a couple days later (have I ever told you the full story?)…. I hope your grandma can have a somewhat normal life after this…
I’m sorry I haven’t posted sooner, love. Please don’t think I haven’t been thinking of you.
My thoughts are with you all.
