Dear St. Louis Post Dispatch

Dear St. Louis Post Dispatch,

I find it extremely imprudent that you expect me to pay $2.95 to view online the full text of my grandmother’s obituary that was published only last week. That’s $2.95 for a whole 35 words that probably just list funeral information. The San Diego Union-Tribune has, on the other hand, printed and mailed me by postal mail an obituary from 1994 of a cousin’s husband I never had the pleasure of meeting, quickly and for free!

I would take note if I were you…

    That’s disgraceful.

  2.

that’s very rude of them to ask you to pay to see your grandmothers orbituary.

  3.

blah! sometimes the world is out of balance!

  4.

I say you send that to their Letters column and or to the “want” adds so they don’t pay attention. Let them print it for themselves and then eat crow.

It’s amazing the situations certain people will find ways to profit from. That is absolutely ridiculous, honestly.

It amazes me how traditional media has failed to grasp the internet.

What does the paper itself cost? 50 cents? And what were they trying to get you to buy online? A full week of online access to their paper?

I agree- Print out this post and mail it to them. Be sure to note that your compaint about them is available for free via your site. And be sure to link to them so that people searching for their rag find your post.

According to my uncle, the only word that’s missing is “many” to end it with “and friend to many.” My word count says 35, so I dunno. And I believe that the $2.95 is only for the one article’s full text. I don’t think that applies to the full site…?

I was originally going to email the GM what I posted here, and post it, but I thought I wasn’t quite eloquent enough…

Maybe if I sit down and rethink it for a few minutes…
