“The Father has sent the Son [to be] the Savior of the world. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.” — I John 4:14-15
With all the fun and excitement of opening presents at Christmas, do you ever forget that Jesus is the greatest gift ever given? The Bible tells us that Jesus was born to “save His people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21). God gave us the gift of a Savior! Even His name, Jesus, means”the Lord is salvation.” When Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead, He took the punishment and paid the penalty of sin for all who believe. This Christmas, tell Him you want to receive His great gift of love and salvation!
Yes, it starts, those crazy five days that surround Christmas.
On Thursday, my friend C and I met for our yearly traditional Christmas shopping. With no plan in mind, we headed north. We ended up in historic Kimmswick and went to The Blue Owl. The food is good, but if you ask me, it’s waaaaay over priced. I usually don’t go for dessert, but I had to have a $5 piece of red velvet cake. I later almost paid for that by getting sick (cream cheese icing), but it wasn’t too bad. But lunch cost us each about $23, including the tip. We exchanged gifts - she got me this cute little snowman with his belly full of scrumptous chocolate. We then walked around and shopped until everyone closed at 4pm. I found some Kimmswick coffee in lots of neat flavors like pumpkin spice and cherry chocolate, etc. I bought some for Steve’s grandmas and parents then some more of those wooden roses for one of his grandmas.
From there, we went up to South County (St. Louis) and went to Worst Buy. Hey, don’t knock on me, I had $30 in Reward Zone certificates to use. They didn’t expire until April, but I figured I’d better use them before I lost them. I was surprised the traffic wasn’t as bad as I remember last year. Last year on the 23rd, it took me over an hour to get out of the mall’s parking lot. This year we were in and out with less-than-expected waiting. At BB, I bought an external hard drive (that I’ve been meaning to get for over a year now). An 80 gig for $80, then the $30 off.

“Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me shall not hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.” — John 6:35
There’s nothing like freshly baked cookies, cakes, and breads, especially during the holidays! Just the aroma makes you hungry. But did you know that your spirit gets hungry too? Jesus said, “I am the bread of life…” He wanted us to understand that we need God and His Word to live. Just as our bodies need food to live, we also need spiritual food - God’s Word - to satisfy the deepest hunger in our hearts. Spend some time reading the Bible every day, and remember to thank God for His Son, Jesus - the bread of Life.
“He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords…” — I Timothy 6:15
Do you know the song “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands”? Jesus really does have the wold world, including all the kings and rulers - and you and me - in the palm of His hand. The Bible says that Jesus is the sovereign King of kings and Lord of lords. That means that He is all-powerful, all-wise, and in control of everything that happens. God wants us to honor Jesus as our King. We do that by serving, trusting, and obeying Him. That’s the gift Jesus wants from you this Christmas!
Some background info: 11.11.04, 5.18.05, 6.10.05, & 6.27.05. But in a nutshell, Steve’s company he used to work for went union this year and when the boss refused to agree on a contract, the union pulled out four of the guys. Steve now works for them and though it’s farther away and he doesn’t get a company vehicle, it’s a much better job: no ass for a boss, better pay, more raises, paid-for schooling, our health insurance will kick in soon, etc. But there was a time we got lots of silly correspondence from his old company regarding various things like the union or back pay issues (you’ll have to see background posts for that one), etc. We haven’t heard from them in many months, until yesterday, when we got this letter in the mail. Please note that I’m writing it exactly as they have it, bad punctuation, grammar, and spelling, and all.

“I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.” — John 10:11
Jesus told His followers a story about a shepherd with 100 sheep. One of them wandered away and was lost. The good shepherd left all the others to find the lost one, because he cared about all of his sheep. The Bible calls Jesus the Good Shepherd, and we are His sheep if we follow Him (Psalm 95:7). He takes care of all our needs. He gives us rest when we’re weary, comfort when we’re scared, and protection. He even gave His life to save us. What a wonderful shepherd!
