Just so frustrating

I may have to reformat the desktop again, it sucks so bad. It refuses to recognize my external hard drive at all now. Luckily I was able to get all my files off while it was working. But then, just as I suspected, once I restarted the computer it was gone again. Plus, sometimes when restarting it, it hangs with a black screen on startup. It wouldn’t be so bad, I guess, if it were the laptop, but the desktop is the “main frame” of the network. *sigh*

a peek into where I live

People who have never been here assume I live out in the middle of nowhere. And, well, when compared to New York city or LA or even St. Louis… yeah, I do. :) People comment that I’m always driving somewhere… I am! I always say we’re within a half an hour of everything. So…

This is what our highways (not interstates) look like:

Highway 32

This is what most of our roads look like:

Zell Road

And a lot of them even look like this!

Gobble, gobble, gobble!!!

computer randomness

Reformatting sucks, you know?
It’s a long story but basically yesterday I finally said, the heck with the internet that refuses to work suddenly on the laptop, I’ll reformat both computers and see how that works. The desktop needed it badly anyway and if I’m doing that one, I might as well do the laptop so it can start with a fresh network as well.
So anyway, we’re back and running it seems. Most of my stuff has been reinstalled on the laptop but I’m waiting for my files to transfer from the external hard drive to the desktop (which is taking FOREVER) so I can reinstall stuff there.

Haters
I wanted to post here last night but got sidetracked by the comments in my moderation panel. Yes, there are currently 12 comments waiting to be approved for this post. All from Geek Squad employees. Some of them admit it, others don’t but all I know is I’ve had 254 hits this month from geeksquadforums.com. So you decide.
I’ll approve the comments a bit later today after I’ve edited a few of them for profanity, I don’t appreciate people coming here and using the “f-word” and calling me an “asswipe.”
I love how they’ve all got their panties in a bunch over this though. It’s just too bad that 90% of them won’t bother to read all the previous comments because if they did, they’d realize that what they’re saying is completely repetetive and pointless.

New Theme
Some of you have mentioned my new theme, so I thought I’d mention that it’s really nothing special. ;-) Several weeks ago, I was working on a new site and installed the K2 plugin/theme on it. I’ve been wanting to try it for several months but never got around to looking at it. So on the new site, I liked it and tried it here. The theme is just modified a bit from one you can download. Maybe before long I’ll get a chance to create something that’s all my own again.

I still love old newspapers! ♥

This is great!

From the Ste. Genevieve Herald, March 29, 1884:

We are told that J.W. WILKINSON, the man who kept an ice cream stand here last Summer, was hanged in Indiana for the murder of his mother-in-law who he is said to have poisoned previous to his stay here in order to get possession of her property. When here, he gave out that he came from Kentucky, but it seems that Freeport, Indiana, was his home. After the commission of the deed, he fled from place to place with his mother, sister and son, staying nowhere very long as the detectives were on his track. From here he went to Poplar Bluff, thence to Memphis, Tenn., where the officers of the law hunted him down. We don’t know how much truth there is in this story, as we have nothing to vouch for it but the word of a man who says he saw the account in an East St. Louis paper.

How you like that? :)

All about MySpace

I saw these shirts in Hot Topic when Sarah, Elijah, and I were in the mall the other day. I thought they were quite funny. :)

The Corpse Bride

This is a movie I never thought I’d actually watch but Sarah called up and invited herself over this afternoon (lol) so she’s spending the night tonight. We grabbed a late lunch from China King - haha, about $30 in Chinese food, enough for lunch and dinner and breakfast and finally lunch again - I love it! Then we stopped at McDonald’s for three $1 DVDs.

She wanted The Corpse Bride and we also picked up In Her Shoes and Bewitched. So far we’ve only just finished The Corpse Bride and are now checking out some of the special features.

I’ve never really been a Tim Burton fan as far as his animations go… aka, obviously I’m thinking of The Nightmare Before Christmas, but this was actually pretty good. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would and it wasn’t as creepy as I thought it was going to be.

The animation is good and the story certainly unique and humorous. I enjoyed it and we may have to watch it again later when Steve gets home. He might actually enjoy it, too. Plus, I love the little skeleton with the beard. :)

Curling??

What in the heck is “curling” and how in the world is it an Olympic sport? Seriously, this is weird. This can’t be a sport, it’s like an oversized board game or something.

too much, too much, part ii

Okay, so, where did I leave off? After the morning craziness I was finally able to get on with my day. Elijah, Sarah, and I headed an hour south and did some major shopping. But not before we picked up Elizabeth at her college campus for lunch.

I was sitting alongside the road in front of a fire hydrant and she was getting into the car when a truck pulled up in front of us, stopped, and waved. I said, “hey, someone’s waving at you,” and sort of pointed. She looked up, waved, and said, “moron, that’s your brother.”

Oops, my bad.

So I called him and we ended up following him to where he needed to park and then driving him up to the building he needed. :)
