Titanic Artifact Exhibition

RMS Titanic Today has been a long day! On the spur of the moment, I decided I was going to downtown St. Louis to the Science Center to see the Titanic Artifact Exhibition. I have been wanting to see this since I heard it was coming - I’ve been a Titanic buff since 5th grade when I read about it in history (yes, waaaay before the 1997 movie!) - and since they had already extended the exhibit a week, it was now or never.

This. Thing. Was. Amaz.ing!

I loved it! Well worth the $20 I put in for the $34 for our tickets ($12 each for me and my mother-in-law, $10 for Sarah, Elijah was free).

You entered first into a dark hallway with portraits of passengers followed by two rooms of artifacts including a leather suitcase still in relatively good shape (for being on the ocean floor for 80+ years), an actual piece of the ship to which rope was tied (sorry, can’t remember the actual name), rivets, postcards, glasses, a purse and comb, etc. From that room, it was as if you were boarding the Titanic yourself. We entered this small parlor-like room and then went down a hallway of first class cabins. There were several more rooms of artifacts and more re-makes including a first class cabin, a third class cabin, a boiler room hallway (something like that), and: the grand staircase. the interesting things I find on MySpace

So, I’m new to the MySpace world, as you all know. I never felt the need to have one of them before and I only joined in February when a friend started a “reunion” group for some of us. But last night I spent a lot of time on there. It’s funny what you can find when you look around…

– I found friends from junior high, commenting on my maid of honor’s page, asking if she still talks to me and how many kids do I have now…

– I found all these kids that I used to teach, kids that probably wouldn’t remember me now…

– I found that my brother is a complete meatball…

– I found that a friend of mine has her own music on her page, and she’s really good!

– I found another friend is getting married…

– I found that this same friend is currently living in a 1977 campervan in the middle of a national forest (now that takes guts)…

– I found photos from the group that I used to hang with that I’ve never seen before, photos of stuff I knew of, but never got to see… (I got married 2nd in the group and moved 30 miles away so I missed a lot in the later years.)

– I found photos from this same group and said, “hey that looks familiar!” Only to realize that, well, dummy, they were taken in my house!

– I found that one of my friends plans to move to Ireland soon…

– I found that my arch nemesis actually looked halfway decent on her wedding day (LOL)…

– I found that I suspect that two friends have hooked up and aren’t telling me!!!! :P

…oh, and so much more.

It’s crazy. I miss everyone so much…

Replacement Vacation

So, a couple of days ago I ranted in a protected post about how we’d had a trip to Virginia planned for next month but it fell through. I am quite disappointed that we’re not going to be going as I was really looking forward to it, but I’ll live. Instead, Steve has come up with a “replacement vacation.” We won’t be gone as long as we would have and it’s not nearly as far, nor is it a big city - but I think we’ll hae an awesome time. Anything to keep me from thinking about that craft fair I’ll be missing because of the Virginia trip…

We will be going to Kentucky Lake with my brother and sister-in-law and possibly Christine and Rich! This is something we’ve been talking about doing forever with my bother and sil. Now we’re finally going to do it.

Chocolate = independence?

So I was sitting on the far left side of the couch working on some important stuff and Elijah decided he wanted some more chocolate milk. Next thing I know he runs back into the room carrying the half-full jug of milk. He gave it to me along with his cup then ran off again. So I filled his cup with milk and he returns with the chocolate powder. We buy it in a 4lb can* so it stays on the counter the whole time where he can reach it.

He stopped at the far right side of the couch and the whole time I’m telling him, “no, give it to me, no! Give it to Momma! Elijah! Elijah! Elijah!?” Well, he just completely ignored me, opened the can, and tried to scoop his own chocolate into his cup that I was still holding along with the jug of milk and the laptop. (You were wondering why I wasn’t so quick to just take the chocolate away? Now you know.)

Well, of course, he spilled a huge pile of chocolate powder on the couch. And, of course, I got a bit angry.

It wasn’t that he was trying to be independent and get his own chocolate milk, it was that he completely ignored me when I instructed him to give it to me. This happens a lot, unfortunately. He acts like he can’t hear you telling him to leave something alone or to put it down or not to touch it, whatever. I know he can hear us. He doesn’t even tell us, “no” or his newest word, “nope.” He just plain ignores us. And that’s what really bugs me about him not listening.

How about you? What did your parents do when you ignored them? Or if you’re a parent, what do you do when your kid ignores you?

And now he’s throwing a fit about having to sit on the potty, trying everything in his power to get me to let him get up. But that, my friends, is for another post.

What’s that noise?

So my laptop fan has started buzzing when it “boots” up. Owen informs me that any time he has encountered this he’s had to replace the fan and sometimes other parts.

Can someone please lay my fears to rest?

I just replaced one fan, on the desktop, and don’t want to have do it to the laptop as well. Even though this is still under warranty, I’d rather not have the Geek Squad working on it for obvious reasons…

Also, any tips on how to clean it? I’ve never owned a laptop before…
