Brokeback Mountain
So I finally watched Brokeback Mountain yesterday… Wanna know what I thought of it? I’ll be glad to tell you, as soon as I make one thing clear…
This has nothing to do with whether or not I agree with homosexuality, this is about the movie itself, only. I feel I have to say this because anywhere online I’ve seen this movie discussed and someone has had oh, some not so nice things to say about it, a ton of people jump on that person saying, “you just don’t like gay people, you intollerant homophobe.” This is not the case here, this has nothing to do with my feelings on any moral issues and comments that say otherwise will be deleted and ignored.
Now, the movie.
It sucked.
Seriously, that’s what I thought. It was just so incredibly boring. I cannot convey to you just how bored I was - I’m surprised I actually got through the whole movie. I’m having a hard time figuring out how it won Oscars for Best Achievement in Directing; Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Score; and Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published.
The acting was okay, but nothing really spectacular, just everyday ho-hum. And it’s hard for me to say this, because we all know how much I love Heath Ledger. But nothing really pushed my “hey, they’re good” buttons. In fact, I was really disappointed in Anne Hathaway, I really thought she was a better actress than that.
The music. Even the music was boring. I can’t explain it except to say that the undertones of the movie that were set by the music were just not captivating whatsoever. I don’t understand how it won an award. It was like I was listening to the same boring song through the whole thing.
And the dialogue? A lot of it seemed pointless, just void of any real reason or even emotion. Just talk.
Well, I just guess I don’t get it. There was so much hype about this movie and then when you go see it, it just stinks, and I wonder… HOW did it get any awards at all, and WHY was there so much hype? Seems to me it’s just all about shock value, really, and that’s just pointless. Why can’t people just make good movies anymore? Why does there always have to be an ulterior motive for everything?
