LBL Four
This will be my final LBL post. ;-)
Wednesday we headed home. The trip was short. A good one, but short. I could use another, but I guess I will have to wait.
Most of the morning was spent packing up and organizing things into the vehicles. Really, I’m surprised how my brother and sister-in-law got all their stuff in their car, we had such a time getting everything into our Jeep. We had laid down two seats in the back and we still had to stuff it all in. Maybe my brother’s car has a cartoon trunk. You know, bottomless, compacts anything put into it.
I went over and paid though I was disappointed we didn’t get to eat in the lodge restaurant. For some reason, I really wanted to do that. Oh well. The owner lady asked me if there was something the cottage was missing, what would it be? My answer -a BBQ brush! Steve was greatly disappointed they didn’t have one there.
Well, we started on our way and since my sister-in-law wanted to head to the dam area one last time, we did. This time we were able to actually stop and sort of visit both of the dams. You know something interesting? I didn’t know this before - both the Cumberland and the Tennessee Rivers flow South to North, so the dams for them are in the Northern part of the lake. Weird, aye? Well, weird for this part of the world, methinks.
Oh, we also stopped at this little candy store that’s on Highway 62 there between the dams. I think it’s called The Candy Stick or The Candy Cane or something. I couldn’t resist buying some milk chocolate and some milk chocolate crisp and some peanut butter fudge. The stuff was wonderful and it didn’t last long. The shop had all sorts of candy that’s more homemade (not mass-produced) - things I’ve never even heard of, everything from lemon and cherry crisp bark to a large section of diabetic chocolates. A very nice man, too, he talked with us for a little bit.
We had mostly an uneventful ride home though we made more stops on the way back than we had on the way down. Not long after leaving the lakes area, we got some lunch. We just drove through some fast food at that point because both the kids were sleeping. We did, however, stop at this little park at the tip of Illinois.
That’s a satellite photo, or two, of this area. It was pretty neat, seeing these two powerful rivers collide. Though, my brother and Steve did make an interesting point: why is it the Ohio flows into the Mississippi and not the Mississippi into the Ohio? I really don’t know, myself. :)
We split with my brother and sister-in-law there, and came on home.
Know what was the best about returning home? We came home to a finally ant-free house. You may remember how some ants invaded us not long ago and everything we did to try and get rid of them failed. Well, as we were leaving for Kentucky, Steve set off three bug bombs and that did the trick! The downside? I also came home to an extra load of dishes and laundry… just to be safe. Oh well!
