hmmm… what?
Okay, so, our church airs our services weekly on a little St. Louis station at 9.30pm every Sunday and then at 10pm on another station more towards the middle of Missouri. At the end of the program, it always says that counselors will be standing by for the next half an hour, should you want to call for any reason. Then, because the church is not open 10-11pm at night, the phones are transferred to a volunteer’s house.
Tonight is not my night normally, but they were all having the 4th of July celebration and fireworks at the guy’s house who’s turn it is. So since we opted not to join all of them, I said I’d do it.
This is maybe the 5th time the phones have been transferred to my house. I have never gotten a call, and tonight… I get two. How weird is that?
The first was an older man – I only know it was a man because of the name, not the voice. I couldn’t understand half the things he was saying and the conversation was quite weird. I took down what information I could understand and had to explain to him why I was not “in the office” to look at something for him. I do know that he had mailed something into the church and wanted to know if the secretary has gotten it yet and that he thinks we should get on one of the bigger channels in St. Louis… the NBC channel, actually.
The second was a woman who said she is 87 years old and she just wanted to offer her appreciation, it came with her life’s story… somewhat. She’s one of our viewers from the other station, two hours West of St. Louis. She asked me about the current pastor – is the the pastor now, or still associate? Yes. And what about “the other one?” That makes me want to laugh… He’s fine, I assure her. She’s been watching for the last 4 of our 23 running years, she tells me, ever since she moved to this area and she loves us, wishes she lived closer.
So that was my interesting Sunday night, how was yours? It’s 11pm now, so I can go to bed and any late callers will get my cell phone’s voice mail… I work tomorrow…

Wow, interesting. I’m assuming you are good at counselling in these things? How long did they talk?
I was talking online with JZ for a long time throughout the night, heh.

Ah, yeah, you’re celebrating Independence Day, right. Almost forgot *laughs* Our national celebration day should be October 3rd I think, celebrating the reunion of the both parts of Germany. Happy Independence Day :-)

Well, my Sunday night was lot more normal than yours Val. Watch a show off Tivo, have dinner, play on Flickr, and put more pieces in my jigsaw puzzle.
However, our Sunday day was more interesting. My wife, youngest son, and his friend, joined me on our first nature hike. We visited Pickle Creek/Spring nature trail. it’s a 2 mile trail new Hawn State park in Missouri. None of us got seriously injured, so it was a decent first experience. Maybe we’ll go back when it isn’t hot enough to melt someone. :)

That second woman just sounded so sweet!! :) :)
My Sunday consisted of doing nothing lol. Well nothing out of the ordinary at least. Like Todd I played on Flickr…but you know I do that for hours EVERY day LOL. And Neopets of course. And I talked to you until hubby came home with dinner. I ate and we looked at THE CAMERA and then I took my pain meds and got REALLY sick :/ Exciting eh?

Wow. I didn’t know that churches aired their services. Cool. They don’t seem to do that over here where I live. haha. Guess it has something to do with the media monopoly…XP

Yes, some of our local churches here in St. Peters, Missouri even broadcast their services. Maybe not real time in all cases, but some are live. Live stuff has always taken place on radio, and local churches are starting to get into the game I guess.
So far it’s on the really big churches in our area. How about other folks?

Bes – Yeah, actually I used to be a not half bad counselor, for someone who’d never gone to school for this kind of things. I was, and kinda still am, the one that all my friends came to with their troubles and for a long time there I taught children and youth. Then when E was really little, I did some counseling during services, before I started the TV stuff.
These guys didn’t talk too long, just a couple of minutes, and they didn’t require any real counseling. The first guy ended up hanging up on me when he was finished with what he had to say, actually, it was kinda humorous.
Tammy – yeah there are lots here that air services, mostly on the local stations that’s what you find on Sunday morning. We even have a tiny station in my town that airs (live) audio only from the Catholic church in town with a still photograph up. It’s kinda surreal. haha
Our service is what I work on each week then we edit and it airs the following week at night. We are on the radio live for an hour, too.
Jesse – I worked Monday at those same people’s house, moving some more computers around, updating them, installing software and hardware, etc. I am apparently THE computer person now.
Todd – just want to say again that I love Pickle Springs :) You’ve got me really wanting to go back again now… though I think I’ll wait until the fall. ;-) And our church is about, last I checked, 1100 in membership but 500-600 average morning services.
