Okay, so, the concert.
It was totally cool. And if you don’t remember, on Friday I went to see the Goo Goo Dolls and Counting Crows in St. Louis… well, technically Maryland Heights, but whatever.
I first helped out my friend who is interning with a radio station, and that was kinda fun… it was really hot and almost unbearable until the sun started to set, but it was fun. :) They had a huge billboard that the GGDs bought that people had to sign and there was really a lot going on there. The coolest thing, haha, was that we didn’t have to go through security, hahahaha. Ohhh and we got free drinks, and they put me in a radio t-shirt so people thought I was… cool. Except the other radio booths. They looked at us mean.

Well, anyway. When we were done, we were given some actual concert tickets, which, I’m told is not a usual occurrance. She said usually she’s gotta sit on the grass. So while they were not very great seats, we were happy we could sit in chairs.
So we missed the opening band, I don’t even know who it was. We were busy then. But we were seated before the Goo Goo Dolls came out and, actually, we were both surprised to learn that the Counting Crows were actually the headliners. But the Goo Goo Dolls were great and I even worked up the courage to get some photos. Especially with Christine’s goading on text message (heehee) and the fact that many other people were taking them with flash and not getting yelled at by the creepy security guy. So I went for it… without flash. I took many that did not turn out, but a few that did, that I am quite happy with.
Those are just some randomly picked ones.
Now, the Counting Crows… I was turned off with their lead singer right away. He talked before the GGDs came out and he said that it was, “our f***ing duty to vote.” Now, that may be true, but I don’t see the point for the f-bomb, especially since there were lots of kids there. Then when they were actually out on stage, he said that word constantly, amongst other words. Now, I’m not afraid of profanity or anything, but, seriously, these guys are supposed to be professionals and he just sounded like a complete moron up there, like he has no grasp whatsoever of the English language. He just was not fun to listen to and lost my attention almost immediately. Because of his idiocy, I didn’t really care a lick about whatever charity he was talking about. Honestly. The lead singer of the Goo Goo Dolls didn’t have to use profanity to get his point across… hmmm…
Moving along… The CCs were okay. But they weren’t playing any songs (but one) that we knew, and even that one is a remake. So we skipped early on them. Plus, it didn’t help that the guy right behind us – seriously, like 60 years old – was whistling so loud we were getting headaches. And he was completely rude, he kept whistling while the lead singer was talking and yelling for them to “get on with it.” Of course, I had lost interest in whatever the guy had to say at that point, too, so maybe I don’t completely blame this drunk idiot for his behavior. However, he just kept it up and I was seriously getting a migrane. So I just turned around and stared at him for like… five minutes. Then the guy behind him noticed me and told him to “shut the f*** up, maaaaan.” He was just as drunk. “We can’t hear hiiiiiiim, dude.” The guy kept up the whistling and then the people down his row started telling him to “shut the f*** up, duuuude.” I thought a fight was going to break out. That’s when we left, maybe there was a fight, I dunno.
Well, here are the CC pics. I don’t have nearly as many of them for two reasons: 1. they were lame, 2. the old people in front of us would NOT stop swaying and sit their fat butts down. Okay…

Afterwards we had, like, the shortest visit to Steak ‘n’ Shake, like, eva. Seriously, our food was quick to arrive… it was nice because it was really late and I didn’t get home until nearly 1am even though we left the concert early and all that jazz.

Okay. This entry made me crack up at a few blunts. Your bluntness is funny. :D
Firstly, about the Counting Crows guy, I think it’s pretty bad what some of these people do at their concerts when there are kids present. I heard that Green Day doofus did something REALLY bad at a concert with younger kids present, and if I had kids there would be no way in heck that I would ever let them see a band like that.
I’m getting annoyed by the drunk guy (and the fat butted people) just hearing about them. It probably was a good idea you left. ;)
I meant, crack up a few times. :S
Lucky you! Rock on, girl! :)
i feel sorry for you
Thanks, but I really don’t need your pity, I’m just fine.
i’m don’t pity you because you need it, i pity you because i feel sorry for you
Sure. Um. Okay. Whatever you say.
And just what makes you so high and mighty that you must feel sorry for me? What makes you think I’m “worthy” of your sorrow?
Adam Duritz is awesome and you don’t know **** about **** Adam is a great man and you should ******* go get Aids and die you miserable ****
your right david she is a ****
Okay, freak. Wow, somebody is PMS-ing.
How about you go, take some classes, and learn the English language yourself? Because now you sound like a moron as well. Oh, and please don’t talk to yourself – makes you look really stupid.
Get a life.

small children should not be brought to rock concerts for exactly the reason you were so upset. if a person chooses to subject their children to it by buying a ticket, then tough.
Also, if you go to a concert that you expect to hear all the songs that are on the radio, then that’s lame. Why even go to the concert. The Counting Crows are one of the best live bands, telling stories with their songs and if you had tried to listen to what Adam was saying, throughout the show.
Drunk people can be removed from a show. You had the balls to be outraged over the f-bomb, go get outraged and get a security person to eject the drunk idiot.
Sorry you had such a bad time…to think, there were probably cc fans who would have loved to have that ticket…
ps-I believe Adam Duritz is a few credits short of a degree in literature from Cal. Maybe if you listened to those songs you didn’t know you would see just how eloquent he is.
Well, you know, you all are really just missing the point.
I never said anyone should bring small children, but that doesn’t matter – either way, they were there. And it doesn’t matter if this guy is a few credits short of a degree – so what? Because someone has a degree doesn’t mean that they will always carry themselves in a respectable manner or use appropriate language. A degree means nothing these days. And really, it seems that eloquence is in the eye of the beholder. I have given my opinion, and now I wonder why these random visitors seem to feel the need to defend someone who I never even gave the name of. I didn’t know his name. Didn’t care.
As far as radio songs – that’s just the point. I was not expecting anything. It’s all about opinion, again – sure CC are good, but it’s your opinion that they are one of the best live bands. I don’t hold to that thought myself. I wasn’t there to see them. I don’t know many of their songs. So I would not have expected to hear songs I knew. The point was that we didn’t know the songs, so we weren’t impressed, so we left. Big freaking deal. I didn’t have a bad time – the Goo Goo Dolls were awesome, I actually had a great day. The ticket? Who cares? I didn’t pay for it. And if there were CC fans who had wanted it, all the empty seats around us would have been filled. The seating area was only about 60% full, fyi.
And finally, how dare you have the audacity to come here and insult me by telling me I had balls to get outraged over something.
1. I do not have balls. I’m female, thank you very much.
2. I was not outraged. I thought he made himself sound stupid. That does not outraged equal.
3. “Balls” as you say, would have been to stand up and tell the guy to shut up with the language. Being outraged – as you falsely assume I was – over something is not “ballsy” – it’s still passive. Doing something about it may, however, be construed as being “ballsy.”
David Mason, you’re right, she doesn’t know **** about ****. Or did you mean Adam? Or did you mean to say they were both the same? I don’t know, but I’ll assume you call Adam with a cute nickname you created: “****.” That’s really cute.
Your message was short, David, so I couldn’t understand what you really wanted to say. I’ll start assuming with what you did say, then: the only thing you capitalized in your message was Adam Duritz and Aids, and not even your own name; I’m assuming you view both Duritz and Aids in the same light, so I’ll keep that in mind and avoid their concerts in the future if I remember your message. Also, you talk to yourself. That’s so awesome; I wanna do that too. That should eliminate the need to have any friends, or make one feel better if one has no friends.
As for The Counting Crows, I don’t listen to them much, and that means I can’t hate them as I don’t know much about them, and I can’t defend them as I don’t know much about them. However, the songs I have listened to already, I’m not a big fan of such songs. If I experienced the same things at their concert and he acted as if he belonged to “Earth, Wind and Fire”, a band whose members don’t even brag about their uniqueness in the music world, I would have not liked him. Good luck to you, Dave; I hope you keep talking to yourself, as I think talking to others in that manner only confuses them, and conveys no message other than that of a confused state. Your comment gave me a good idea as to what kind of fans “The Counting Crows” creates; maybe it somehow reflects the attitude of Adam Duritz himself. I don’t know.
Kd — > You have a good point. However, kids are brought to The Killers & U2 concerts all the time, and no one ever says “F this” and “F that”, as no one needs to show off in other ways. They show off in other ways, and for good reasons, through their music and respect for their fans. When a ticket stub and the people that sell tickets allow children to be admitted, they are also indirectly claiming that things will be safe and language will be safe. That’s why people take their children. Does that make sense? It’s lame to use the “F” word simply to show off. Really lame.
You have some interesting points though, as I see where you’re coming from. Also, regarding Adam Duritz having a degree; that’s irrelevant. Most of the big music players have no degree, and many of the big music stars have completed their degrees. Should we count Adam as being incompetent because of not being able to complete a degree all these years? I went to Cal and am going to Cal again for Masters, and I think it’s irrelevant in the music industry what degree you have, specially if your degree is in literature. Literature program doesn’t teach you how to sing songs or write lyrics. It’s your talent that counts; your talent for music and your talent for communicating your message to the fans. You say they tell stories; they seem to be doing a very bad job then, if that’s the standard you use to judge them. Maybe he should have taken communication classes instead of literature. I don’t know, as I don’t know TCC much.
I went to the Counting Crows/Goo Goo Dolls Concert in Atlanta and the only profanity I heard came from the lead singer of the Goo Goo Dolls–who used it constantly. Both bands did an awesome job, however, the Goo Goo Dolls stayed true to all their songs while the Counting Crows did their own thing and really expressed the emotional side of their songs. I think the name of the opening singer was Elliot Morrison and he did a great job as well.
I stumbled upon this entry and was really surprised. Counting Crows is my favorite band and definitely the best band I have ever seen live.
I was at this show and I don’t remember Adam Duritz cursing a lot, but I will take your word for it. I really don’t see any reason why you would not tell the truth about that. I admit I was in a daze because I am so enamored with him. So I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt on that.
I also didn’t see any kids at the concert, but I was sitting near the front and they may have been on the lawn.
I didn’t think he was inappropriate at all. But then again, see previous comment about the dazed condition.
I enjoyed this particular concert immensely. Counting Crows make it a point to NOT play their songs the same as the recorded version. I think that makes them unique and makes every concert special.
My brother went with me and he was a goo goo dolls fan. He told me that he thought the goo goo dolls in his opinion were good but counting crows were Much better. I thought the goo goo dolls were ok. You didn’t mention how horrible it was when the other guy sang. Wow, he is bad. I’m not a goo goo dolls fan, so I had never heard him before. let me say, it was a shock.
anyway, long story short, I wanted to reply to say that I am sorry that you didn’t enjoy counting crows. I am always surprised when someone has such a contradictory reaction than I have to a similar experience. And I wanted to assure you that counting crows fans are literate and respectful – unlike one of your previous repliers. I certainly don’t expect someone to like something just because I do. But like I said, I’m just fascinated when something hits me on such a visceral level (such as counting crows/adam duritz) and someone else just doesn’t have that same experience. c’est la vie.
@ Shiva –
No, you’re right, I would not waste my time writing a blog entry that was only meant to lie about something. I wrote about it because it was true. And I did see many kids there, we gave out lots of free stuff to many, many kids.
Thank you for your respectful response, and I leave you with a few things…
“You didn’t mention how horrible it was when the other guy sang.”
By that, I assume you mean the singer of the Goo Goo Dolls? Simply put, I didn’t say it was horrible when he sang because it was not horrible. I really really enjoyed the GGD portion of the show. I really like the GGD.
The point basically boils down to the fact that I thought this Duritz guy was not showing any respect or literacy because of his language and that we left early partially because we didn’t know the CC songs that were being sung. That is not to say that no one knows the songs or the songs themselves are bad. We just didn’t know any, weren’t impressed, had places we’d rather be, so we left. But what people who are commenting here don’t seem to understand is that this is all my opinion. I personally don’t care for the Counting Crows and all these random people are greatly offended by that for some reason. For you to say that the CC sings songs differently each time is fine, but the point regarding the songs was simply that we didn’t know the songs. It doesn’t mean the concert isn’t unique, it means that we didn’t know the songs.
*shrug*
I wasn’t insinuating that your opinion was not valid. I am certainly not offended by your opinion. I have no right or reason to be. I was simply expressing my fascination at the disparity between our shared experience. Don’t you find it interesting when someone dislikes something you adore? that’s where I was coming from.
I got that you left because of lack of interest. I wasn’t trying to interest you in something that happened nearly a year ago. I was just explaining where some of the allure is for me.
and yeah, by the other guy, I meant the guitarist or bassist for the goo goo dolls. I had never heard him sing before and I just didn’t like it. Once again, we have a differing of opinions. and once again, I find that interesting.
I’m not trying to sway you to my way of thinking, just marveling at the differences.
Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to insinuate anything either. ;-) I agree with you, we all experience and perceive things differently. So yes I agree with you there :)
Also, as for the other GGD guy singing… I honestly don’t remember that! Eek, guess that song wasn’t that memorable? Heh :)

[...] I look forward to the day when people will accept constructive criticism from other people, and when such people will also realize the fact that not everyone in the world needs to have similar ideas. Otherwise, we’ll have more people acting immature when trying to get attention. If you can get upset because a stranger made a comment about someone who you don’t know in person, imagine how easy it would be to control your emotions and actions if it was a close friend or a relative who made such comments, not to criticize someone but to simply control you. You wouldn’t want that to happen in real life; why let it happen online? [...]
