The Sunburn
To some it may not look that bad… but it hurts. I don’t get it either, because I was so completely anal about keeping sunscreen on me all day. Oh well, I guess it could have been worse, right?
However worse it could have been, however, it is currently making me feel hot all over as well as the pain issue and, let me tell you, I’ve found out just how hard it is to explain to a three-year-old that Mommy hurts all over. He understands “boo-boo’s” but just doesn’t get the hugeness of it all. And this is why when I literally could not stay awake for an hour and a half today, he kept jumping on me.
It was totally weird. I was aware of what was going on around me, but I totally could not make myself wake up.
I was on the couch in a half sitting, half lying down position, with my glasses still on. I remember the NASCAR race being on and I remember when it ended though it turned out I thought the wrong person had won. I remember Steve getting up from his end of the couch and coming back. I remember E playing with his new tractor/trailer/truck toys and coming over and talking to me and jumping on me and sticking his elbow (accidentallly) in my right breast (I remember nearly screaming about that one), and I remember him giving me kisses. I remember saying things to Steve about us still not having taken E to see Cars in the theater like we want to, and then I dreamed we were taking him. When Steve changed the channel after the race, I remember Hee-Haw coming on. I remember Steve walking off then and going upstairs for a minute and I remember Johnny and June Cash being announced and singing, then Steve came back and was all, “why didn’t you call me! I wouldn’t have walked off if I’d have known they were going to be on here!” It was then that a miracle occurred and I sat all the way up and suddenly became alert.
This was all after I’d fallen asleep on the way home in the same manner and after I’d seriously almost fallen asleep in my food at the Chinese restaurant where we had lunch. Now that was really unreal. Never have I been so tired that I’ve nearly fallen asleep at a place like a restaurant. Never.
But though I was tired, I think it’s the sunburn doing it to me. This happened a few years ago, maybe 2002 - before I ever got pregnant. I had a really bad sunburn after our annual float trip - I think it was - and I remember lying on the bed (we were downstairs at that time) and I could not stay awake. Steve kept putting cold cloths on my forehead and Sheila was helping around the house and kept asking me questions. I was quite incoherent.
Well, anyway…
The float trip was not bad, really. I mean, I do have the lasting effects of more skin damage but we had fun. Some of my friends brought their little kids, making me wish I’d brought E instead of sending him to my mom’s overnight like we usually do for this yearly escapade. However, every one of those kids is by nature a calmer child than ours, so maybe we made the right decision.
There are a few things, though, that ticked me off about it all. Those I plan to tell you tomorrow. :)
Until then, want some photos? All my float trip photos are tagged float trip 2006, some are private, most are public.
