The Sunburn

The Sunburn To some it may not look that bad… but it hurts. I don’t get it either, because I was so completely anal about keeping sunscreen on me all day. Oh well, I guess it could have been worse, right?

However worse it could have been, however, it is currently making me feel hot all over as well as the pain issue and, let me tell you, I’ve found out just how hard it is to explain to a three-year-old that Mommy hurts all over. He understands “boo-boo’s” but just doesn’t get the hugeness of it all. And this is why when I literally could not stay awake for an hour and a half today, he kept jumping on me.

It was totally weird. I was aware of what was going on around me, but I totally could not make myself wake up.

the 19th

Well, it’s officially my birthday today, even though I have elected as of last year to not grow any older. So far so good.

I’m going to be stuck out on a float trip today. We go every year with lots of people, though usually much before my birthday. This isn’t how I envisioned spending my birthday, but oh well.

There’s not much else to say… Well, unless you love me, then you can buy me something from my wishlist. ;-)

Heh. Yeah. Happy Birthday to me. Yay.

Gtalk

So Google released a new version of their instant messenger today.

I am in love. ♥

Really, I love Google Talk. It’s so light and AD-FREE, it’s the only messaging program I now allow to turn on automatically when Windows starts. I love it because I can use it from inside my email if I want, too. And I love how it automatically can save all my conversations to my email.

And now, it finally has file transfer!!!

The photos load up in thumbnail form and you can download the full size, it automatically goes to My Pictures > then a Google folder. You can even send and receive exe files now, other programs do not allow this, of course, for obvious reasons, but it’s always been one of my problems with other programs. I don’t send and receive stupid stuff or viruses, but need to occassionally send an exe and I detest zipping it first. Files other than photos are added to a folder in My Documents.

As an added bonus, it displays my music status, if I want it to.

Then, of course, there are the phone features including voicemail now. But since I don’t have a microphone for either computer, I haven’t tested those out yet. ;-)

ANYWAY. Feel free to hit me up on Gtalk any time if you’ve got my email address. And if you don’t have my email address, but have my “usual” password to passworded posts, check out this page with a little bit of info on it.

All about my weekend

I had that fair again. You know, the one I said I would never do again. I don’t know what possessed me to do it again. I guess it is all about the fact that it’s in our town, so we’re literally two miles away from the location and that I hope local people will remember me from last year and buy my candles, etc.

It was comparable to last year, I guess. Saturday was okay. It was still hot but in the morning it was relatively nice and we were doing quite well until around noon or 1pm, then it was really hot and things just died off. Sunday was even more miserable, and I was only there for two hours before packup time (long story, but Steve had been there all day), I was ready to leave after five minutes. The entrance fee for this fair is outrageous, especially when you consider that it’s so hot, they are very disorganized, the size of the fair has been shrinking over the last several years (considerably), etc. So I barely made my money back on the entrance fee and that doesn’t count the other things I had to buy (water and stuff so we didn’t die out there) and the meals we had to eat out (no time to go shopping for real groceries because of this, let alone cook), etc.

One thing that was good though? This year I only saw a couple of my competitor’s brightly colored, specialized bags walk by my booth. Not like in April when we were in their hometown and every other person who walked by had already purchased from them. So that was really good news then, that even if I wasn’t doing very well… neither were they. :)

Anyway, we did have some fun, too, and this year I even took a little bit of an opportunity to walk around and take some photos. (Last year I only left the booth once each day I was so miserable, to go to the AC’d extension center to cool off and use the bathroom. :P)

Also, check out this video. These guys do nothing all day (well, okay, not literally, but you get the idea) but walk around and at the intersections go through this whole bit of an arms demonstration. I talked about them last year, but the photos are gone, gonna try and re-add them, but anyway, here’s the video. It’s not the whole thing, just the final shooting part:

Haha, as you can see, I couldn’t hold the camera steady at the critical moment. I always know exactly when it’s going to fire, but it still always scares me. ;-)

Genealogy 101: Marriage Records

So, you’ve talked to your family, right? You’ve gotten information to start with, organized it, and written it down, right? If not, read Part I. Now it’s time to start verifying some stuff and heading out on your own research.

Marriage records are awesome. I kid you not, they may not contain a ton of information but what they do contain can be a great deal of help for you. They are not also, necessarily, the next step that you have to take, but in my opinion, they are one of the easiest steps to take.

Another Cingular Rant

I haven’t talked about Cingular in a long time. But I’m going to do it today.

This time, I would like to concentrate on their website. IT SUCKS! And here are the reasons why:

1. The UI (user interface) and navigation are really confusing.
As you can see, by viewing this website, I am no stranger to the web, however, I find their website to be the most confusing piece of crap there has ever been. I always end up going in circles looking for what I need. Instead of all roads leading to Rome, all links lead to the main page.

2. The design is just… bad.
Not so much from a standpoint of whether or not I like the design, but that it’s not necessarily compatible with all machines. For instance, here’s what it looks like on my laptop:

Cingular's Website Sucks

What is with that? Shouldn’t the design be fluid? Now granted, that’s a 1288px width, but they should at least center it if they’re going to make it fixed for 800×600. Even in 1024×768 it looks like crap.

Ah! Pr0n!

So this happens to me occassionally.

On Flickr I get a FlickrMail that so-and-so has added me as contact. I always look at those people’s profiles and photos, because sometimes it’s someone I know “in real life.” And then, of course, I’ll add them as a contact, too. (This happened the other day, by the way, a girl I know.)

It was at least, today, the third time this has happened to me. I look at this guy’s profile, it says only that he’s 33 and counts me as a friend. Friend? Okay. So I look at his photos and am immediately hit with a page of porn. Lots of it. The photos are marked friends only.

Now, do I look like someone who wants to be subjected to this guy’s real and toon porn? What about my Flickr profile or my photos would give anyone the idea that I’m into porn? Answer? NOTHING!

Then I notice his other contacts. They’re all women who claim to have very large breasts with their screen names or they have somewhat normal names with porn in their buddy icons… or both.

It’s obvious, at this point, that I’m not going to mark this guy as a contact. But I really wonder what made him mark me as friend? It’s not like I commented on his one normal photograph that’s available publically. (That’s happened before, too, commented on a “normal” photo of someone and she added me as friend only to then be shown a million nude photographs. I have to applaud her on her bravery - she was like 50 - but I’m totally not into that.)

I just don’t get it… unless this is some new way of FlickrSpam… However, I tend to think this guy is kinda local, he’s in some of the same groups I’m in that are locally-defined. In fact, the other guy that did this to me was, too. Maybe it has something to do with Missouri? Because I live in Missouri I must like porn. Right?
