hmmm… what?

oh holy cow

Apparently, any text message I sent with my phone from August 16th through September 2nd was over my plan’s limit and I’m now charged 10¢ for each one. An extra $13.10. Handleable, yes, but the bill itself is already so high. Yes, I have three people who are supposed to be paying for their parts, but since we still owe my brother-in-law money, he gets his phone for free, and my sister-in-law and father-in-law pay him their parts and we just take the whole phone bill.

*sigh*

Will things never get any better?

But for what it’s worth, I still have a hard time believing I sent/received 354 messages in a billing period. I’ve never even gotten close to my 200 limit before… If only the billing period had ended about three days earlier, before we went on that little vacation (I used a lot then). AND, for what it’s worth, Cingular’s website keeps refusing on a regular basis to show me anyone’s current usage for anything other than talk minutes, no text messages, nothing. It’s seriously ticking me off and I’m seriously wondering if T-Mobile would be any better. According to the map, they now service our area (unlike this time last year)… I wonder if they can get me out of my Cingular contract.

We don’t text message actively, though some folks do try to message us. I so wish I could turn that feature off.

I mean, seriously, if someone wants to talk to me, why not just call. :)

T-Mobile is our service provider and we don’t have any billing complaints to mention. Their service is reliable. One of the greatest things has been that we can drive all the way from St. Peters, Mo to Mt. Vernon, Il and not lose service. Same on our trip to Chicago. Oh, and we had service in Washington state last year too.

Not sure about getting you out of your contract, unless maybe you are just paying month to month.

I love to send and recieve text messages, and usually I spend more on that than the actually talking on my the cell phone ;)

Do you really pay for the messages you recieve???!!!

T-mobile charges per text message too, if you don’t have a message plan. For $5/month, you can send/receive a total of 500(?) messages. But since I don’t message anyone, never signed up for it. Calling t-mobile to t-mobile costs us no minutes though, so that means calling is always better.

I have a $5 plan, too, but only get 200. Last time I looked at T-Mobile’s website, for that price you get 400! Blah, twice what I get, haha. But anyway, yes they charge us per sending and per receiving. So I can use that 200 any way I want, I can receive 175 and send 25 or receive 40 and send 160, whatever combination. But if you go over they are 10¢ each, no matter which way they go. Start sending pictures, too, and you’re looking at 25¢ each plus internet usage.

Todd, I would think you should be able to turn off that texting feature. My multimedia messages somehow got turned off and I was not able to send or receive (annoyed me though, even though I don’t use that hardly at all, haha, so I had to get it fixed). So I’d think they should be able to stop texts altogether for you…

I like being able to text, especially here lately. I can send and receive quick messages with Steve while he’s at work - easier and quicker than talking and he can get to them when he’s not so busy. This is also handy for other friends and relatives who have not-so-regular work schedules. I sometimes text a friend to see if she’s busy at work before calling, etc. Also, I personally don’t really like to talk on the phone, so… :-)
