I hardly have a moment’s rest these days. It’s why my posts have been so few and far between lately, I guess. A lot of times, even when I have a little breathing room, I’m just too tired to think.
It didn’t even occur to me today that Steve was late coming home from school until I talked to him on the phone and realized what time it was. He got home at nearly 7pm then said to me,
The Cardinal’s-Tiger’s game, game 4 of the World Series, is currently under rain delay. It is another one of those days where it rained allllll freaking day. But because of this rain delay, they are showing this show called “The War at Home.” I’ve never seen this show before, heck, I don’t think I’ve ever even heard of it before.
It has been a long time a-coming, but our is finally getting that upgrade, aka make-over!
We are so excited! We have been doing linear editing for the last 24 years. Of course, I haven’t been there for 24 years, but a lot of the editing equipment has! Some of it was even used when they got it 24 years ago! So, you can see how what we were doing was an outdated way of editing and the equipment has started dying on us, etc. If you take a look at that photo, you’ll see the old editing equipment. Basically, “linear” means that we edit, how I like to think of it, live on tape. You take the block of video/audio you want from the machine on the left and put it to the machine on the right in the order you want, blah, blah, blah. Of course, this also results in a slight loss of quality. Evenmoreso when you take into account that we air on two stations and were then making a copy of our final product for the other station. By that time, the loss in quality is noticeable (at least to us), but what can you do?
Now, non-linear? It’s all digital, baby! We are going to be running an Avid now! Of course, we still have to have the final product on those icky 3/4″ tapes, but the finished product will be better and as soon as the tv stations get their acts together, we’ll be using a digital format for the air. I guess I pulled a muscle, or something. I’m still hurting, though I think it might be better than it was earlier this week. I’ve obtained some muscle relaxers and I think they’re helping. Though if I don’t show more improvement by Monday, I’m gonna have to go to the doctor. The thing that sucks about that, though, is that I don’t really have a doctor. I haven’t been to a doctor besides the OBGYN for years. Years. So I’m a new patient to anyone I go to.
But one minute I’ll be perfectly fine and then the next, I’m in extreme pain. For instance, earlier I was sitting in the chair and I felt great, but as soon as I stood up to go into the kitchen, I was so stiff I could hardly stand or walk again. Continue reading ‘Still in pain’
Okay, people. There is no such thing as “coding for IE” or “coding for FireFox.” There is only valid code and… not so valid code.
If you use valid code, you won’t have to worry much about your site - just most likely make a few “hacks” for IE to display it correctly because *gasp* IE does not always display code according to standards!
Really, to say you code only for IE just shows your ignorance about all things web. How about you go learn about valid HTML, etc.? Sart here, at w3schools.com.
