Busy busy
I hardly have a moment’s rest these days. It’s why my posts have been so few and far between lately, I guess. A lot of times, even when I have a little breathing room, I’m just too tired to think.
So, let’s see, what has happened since my last post?
Friday was not only the day of our official training on the new editing system, it was also my set-up night for “the big fair,” and the start of a really crappy weekend. The training went well and we got a bit accomplished. However we lost about three and a half hours in the middle of the day when we had some technical problems. Our “trainer” was on the phone with support and that took for.ev.er.
I didn’t leave there until 6 and from then on it was nothing but stress and arguments… for the most part. We had to set the tent up in the wind, misty rain, and the mud… at night. It was probably the hardest set-up time I’ve ever had to do, and even then, we didn’t finish everything, leaving some things for the next morning.
The next morning, I was going on very few hours of sleep and we didn’t get there until 9. This thing started at 10, officially, but people had apparently been arriving since about 7. We had to park a very good distance away and had to pay $5. This is the only fair I have to pay for parking at, personally I think it’s rediculous to ask crafters to pay, but what can you do? Oh, and the walk was all uphill once we got to the bottom of the trailer court we had to park in. If it were not for the nice man who picked us up in a golf cart… I may have had a heart attack. It was just Sarah and I and we had to carry two chairs, the cooler with water and ice and extra candles I hadn’t been able to bring the night before, the cash box which is very awkward to carry, big heavy-duty notebook, the receipt books, a few snacks, my purse, and the camera case with both cameras. I later requisitioned the same man to take me back to the Jeep to get my cell phone. What a geek, I know. He was giving rides though, for $1 one way. Very handy for those people who buy big items I’m sure. He’d given us a free ride the first time, so I snuck in an extra dollar with the requisitioning.
On Sunday, I had to do the whole directing and editing thing - freebie test week actually, I already prepared something for us to air so that we could use this for extra practice and such. So, of course, Steve held the fort down at the fair and texted me constantly asking if I had such and such scent. Then he decided he wanted pizza for lunch, so when I left at 2, I picked up some Pizza Hut, then realized I didn’t have cash for parking at the fair. I got some money from an ATM and headed up. I decided I was going to try and park closer than the day before, and ended up on the other side of town. The cop standing at the last intersection I could get to opened my eyes to life beyond the railroad tracks and I parked back there. There was supposed to be someone to take my money for parking once I got around the corner, but I never saw anyone. I guess I lucked out a bit there, but then I had to hop the railroad tracks and literally walk all the way across the town. It’s a small town, yes, but again, this was a good walk for someone carrying pizzas and a purse that won’t stay on her shoulder. Not to mention it was mostly uphill again. And, because my clothing depends upon what the weather was like the day before… my long sleeved shirt was much too warm. I ended up, once I got to the booth, going to the nearest t-shirt vendor and shelling out $8 to become a walking advertisement for copyright infringement. Who cares though, it was worth it.
Monday I was going on about 3 hours of sleep because I stayed up way too late the night before talking to Bes. However, the night had also brought me three points of amusement. First, I received my largest candle order ever - really, it blew me away. And, of course, thanks to the weekend, I was out of stock of three of those and I have been a candle making freak ever since. Makes me wonder if the scent of apples in the air is what has led to my major headache today. Second, I got a call about candles. I don’t get too many calls from the website really, mostly emails. However, I think I need to find a better way to answer the phone when I don’t recognize the number than my usual, “hello?” One of the drawbacks of having the same number for home and business, I guess. Thirdly, I received an interesting email. I do a website for a lobbyist and he got his first hatemail. The email with the contact form goes to both of us so I can be alerted to problems and issues and spam more immediately than having him forward me stuff or call me, so I get the other stuff too. If it doesn’t pertain to me, I delete it. However, wow… this email was just dripping with hate. It wasn’t your typical rage though, this person can spell and use grammar properly and convey himself somewhat intelligently. But, wow, the hatered, it is amazing. I’d like to post that email sometime soon though, if I get the permission, of course. It proves many a thing…
Monday morning, though, after Study, Sarah watched Elijah for a little bit for me while I got some more practice with the new editing equipment. There’s some stuff I did that I’d like to get posting, if I ever get the chance. I worked a bit on the new opening, but I’m afraid I overkilled some of it. I’m stupid though, and forog to duplicate before editing so there’s no going back to what we had before at this point anymore. And I couldn’t duplicate some of the things… but, oh well, haha.
Hmmm… well… nighty-night. :)
