Cruuuzin’
Okay, so, not long ago, I told y’all about how I bought a PNY 2 Gig Jump Drive. Well, that was in July (which, by the way, I still have not received my rebate!!) and that jump drive served me well. Until the weekend before last, that is.
I used it Friday morning and then I went for it Monday evening and I could not find it anywhere. It’s in my purse 90% of the time, and the rest it was in my laptop case or at the desktop computer. A week later and I still cannot find it. I can only cry that someone out there got a free jump drive. On the upside, while some of the information in there is personal, none of it is very sensitive, does that make sense? Like the documents in there are for Little Light and are business cards, fliers, and such. So my address and phone number are on there, but it’s not like I don’t give all that stuff out to people anyway. I did not lose those files, either, as they’re also on m laptop. I had actually thrown them away that Friday but they were still in the recycle bin. I did, however, lose the video of my grandparents at the beach, but all I have to do is export that from the Avid again as it’s still on that glorious terabyte of space in the control room.
Anyway, while I am strangely peaceful about the loss, I still need to have one of these things.
So Wednesday I went shopping and ended up getting the Sandisk 4GB Cruzer Micro.
This little bugger is awesome! (They had better send me my rebate this time, too, it’s $30!)
First and foremost, it has password protection. So, heaven forbid, I lose this one, too, someone can’t get my documents. They have to reformat it to use it. Then there’s this U3 technology which has something to do with running programs from the thing. I’m no stranger to running programs, though, I always carried around FireFox, PSPad, FastStone Image Viewer, and a few other things from the last drive. But one of these new programs I’m using is called CruzerSync, and I guess you can figure out what that’s for. It will automatically sync my business stuff to and from the drive for me, as well as FireFox bookmarks, when I connect. Of course, it’s also passworded, and I just cancel it if I’m not using my laptop. You can set up different profiles for it, though, for multiple computers I suppose.
I just have to be careful, cannot disconnect it using the Windows remove hardware wizard thingy. Must click on the U3 icon, and then eject. But, really, that’s no big deal.
And, of course, the connector slides in and out of the drive itself. I am amazed at how small and light this thing is. But I wonder if there is a drawback with the slider rather than having a cap, I would think it will pick up much more dirt that way. I guess we’ll see what happens. It also took me a sec to get it where I knew exactly how to open and close it. Gotta give a little push, then slide. :)
Also, because I am now terrified of losing this thing, I need to figure out a way to make sure I never do. I’m thinking… two jump rings, two keyrings, and a clip… :)
Yeahhhh, so, if you’re in the market for a jump drive… go for it :)
