hmmm… what?
A few minutes ago, Elijah came to me and said, “Pleaaaaaase, watch Wonder Pets? Pleaaaassssseeee!?!?!?” I had to sigh and say okay since I had not been proactive and the show was already starting.
Ahem.
Now, if you have never heard of this, it’s called Wonder Pets! and it’s about three baby animals, a guinea pig, a duckling, and a turtle, that go around saving other baby animals that are in trouble. Sounds cute… but… ev.er.y.thing they say is in a sing-song voice and/or part of a song AND in baby-talk. It drives me freaking crazy.
The animation is kinda scary, too, the animals look almost real but the rest of it is more like a drawing. It’s kind of freaky, really.
But Elijah loves it. I told him he could watch it if he sat down on the couch and he’s been there the whole time, the last 15 minutes, with his “BobBob” (Spongebob) blankey, absorbed in the show. Just enamored. Now he’s starting to discuss the show with himself. The Wonder Pets just saved a baby reindeer and he’s probably remembering the Go, Diego, Go episode he just watched where they saved a bunch of reindeer and Santa’s sleigh and Santa, blah, blah, blah. I wasn’t too happy about that – we don’t “do” Santa and flying reindeer in this household – but the kid loves the show so I let it slide this time.
The biggest problem with this show? The stupid songs get stuck in my head!!
Linny… Tuck… and Ming-Ming, too!
Oh, well. He likes it, I guess that’s what is important. Especially since I will only be subjected to it occasionally, when I am too slow to turn off the tv or change the channel before it comes on.
Why do I feel like I’ve written this post before??

Well, I am not crazy at all about Santa. We never believed in him growing up and never made a big deal about him. For us, Christmas is about the birth of Jesus. I’m not so… anal about Santa that I demolish him from everything or anything, we do have some things that are Santa, decorations, but not too much. (And, of course, I don’t even really decorate anymore, so… lol.) But, to me, and we all know that I’m interested in mythologies, I think that’s great, learning the legends is great. But I don’t think my three-year-old needs to be watching his favorite shows where they say Santa is real and turn him into a real person and such. An occasional movie or something is okay – like we watched Ernest Saves Christmas last week while I was sick, but, eh, I don’t want E thinking Santa is real. I guess I just refuse to lie to my kid like that. I’m always reminded of one of my good friends. In a nutshell, she did not believe in Santa but her family just kept on and kept on about it, forcing her to believe until she did. And then when she was around 12, her mother decided that was enough and told her Santa wasn’t real and she wouldn’t believe her mother until she was shown the receipts for the gifts! And then it was like a punch in the stomach – they’d all lied to her. And then, she pretended to believe to her dad (divorced parents) and step-mom because they never gave gifts from them, only Santa, and she thought they wouldn’t give her gifts anymore if they knew she didn’t believe in Santa. I guess I just don’t want to put my kid through something like that. :\

I respect everyones beliefs….but I think there are tons of “lies” that parents tell thier children. Christmas being one of them. The birth of Jesus actually occured somewhere around April or May. Tree in your house? You can thank the tree hugging goddess worshipping Pagans for that one. Gifts given…also the Pagans. Anyways..I dig Santa, it was a fun magical memory for me. I pretty much figured it out myself, no harm done. Anyways..I think THe Wonder Pets are too cute and I enjoy watching them.

I respect, too. Christmas is just “birth of Jesus observed.” But anyway we don’t have a tree either. ;-) lol But gifts given, that comes from the Magi presenting gold, frankincense, and myrrh to Jesus… so…

[...] What would life be without the wonder pets. Well simply put, chaotic. My son, now 16 months, started watching baby einstein, dora, and barney when he was just months old. These t.v shows never really interested him and he gave them very little attention. One day a show titled “Wonder Pets” aired on Nickelodeon and became an immediate his immediate favorite. I think he was 3 or 4 months at the time and when this show would air, his face would glow with excitement. A close friend gave me a Tivo for christmas and if you check my saved programs, you will see that 90% of programs saved is a Wonder Pets episode. Now when he comes home from daycare he runs to the television and screams “Wonder Pets”. If the remote is within reach, he will grab it and attempt to start the show on his own. He loves this show so much that I tried to find Wonder Pets games and toys for christmas but Nickelodeon has not released any as of yet. Some people like this show and others are subject to torture since their kid(s) love it and they don’t, see blog. I particular like the show and find myself watching it almost as intensely as my son. Well I’m not big on the whole Santa thing but I do love Wonder Pets. My song is addicted and that drives me up the wall. He only wants to watch Wonder Pets and now my TIVO is 95% full of Wonder Pet episodes. I do find myself interested in some of the shows and they are amusing (the first time you watch them). lol.

That show sucks. As far as the Jesus/Santa thing goes, we try to stay away from both mythologies.

I cannot take one second of that show, especially the annoying, lisping duck! Who are the nutjobs that came up this concept? Thankfully, my sons know nothing about the show and will not ever watch it.

That lisping duck is actually a little girl. That’s how she talked when she auditioned so they asked her to keep the lisp since ducks don’t have lips (articulation and all that)
