So I have this USB cable…
…and I have NO clue what it goes to.
Don’t you just hate that?
It all started today when the new wireless mouse arrived. This mouse came with a USB cable that you are to charge its batteries with. The non-USB end looks suspiciously like the end of the cable that goes to my camera, makes me wonder if they are interchangeable or not. And speaking of the camera, I’m not even sure which cable came with it - I don’t know if I’m using the same cable or maybe the one that came with the old camera. Whichever one I’m using… I have no clue where the other is.
There are many other cables in my desk drawer.
Of course, the two iPod cables are easy to identify - they’re white and have funny fat ends. Steve’s Sandisk player cable is also easy to identify as it also has a fat end with “Sandisk” written on it. Then I have two audio/video cables, one does both, one does just video - they came with the Fujis for hooking them up to a television. I’ve used one of them a total of once. Then there’s another iPod cable that hooks it into an auxiliary port of… whatever. Then there’s a USB extension cable. I had two more, but I lent them out. Don’t get me started on the other cables that are lying around here, too. Thanks to that gateway arriving today, I currently have two unused power cords; two unused Ethernet cables (I’m still using the one I made, yay!!); a phone cord… in the gateway’s box, that is, there must be 5 or 6 more in the drawer… Hmmm… there’s also a camera cradle I will no longer use and three, count ‘em, three unused mice (mouses?)… two in perfect working condition, one never opened.
I wonder if I can sneak any of this into the box I’ll be sending that old Compaq off in for recycling with Dell? When they said I could send my old system back, they didn’t know they were going to get a striped old, old, old system and many stray accessories. Haha ;-)
But seriously, there has to be a better way - why can’t manufacturers label these cables or something? Like the one that came with the external hard drive could read: “Maxtor One Touch II” every few inches or so, in between all that Greek stuff. Or the speakers’ USB cable could read: “Dude, plug this into a USB port, it will power your speakers.” Doing this might make my life easier in so many respects. Not only would I have fewer stray cords that I’m afraid to throw away, but certain people I know could easier move their computers without me, therefore spending less money on me… wait… that would make my life more expensive, not easier… No… I take that back… it would make my life more expensive and easier… :P
As for this mouse… I’m going to have to get used to that whole sleep mode thing…
