This year I did about 90% of my Christmas shopping for “the girls” from bathandbodyworks.com. I placed three different orders in November (lol) and then another in December for some things I had to get to replace the mistake I made in the first orders (accidentally getting two lotions instead of a lotion and a body wash because apparently I can’t read) and then one final order once their after Christmas sale came out… that last little bit of stuff was for me. ;-)
But it’s that fourth order, the first one this month, that I want to tell you about. This is interesting. I guess.
I ordered on Tuesday, December 19th a few items, some additional things for my sister, sister-in-law, and mother-in-law, then gifts for two cousins. At this point, they said that if you ordered by the 21st, you’d have it by Christmas. We had a family gathering on Saturday, the 23rd, so I paid $17 for overnight shipping.
I waited and watched the order status and the morning of the 22nd, I was concerned because it still read that the order was processing. I was especially concerned when that afternoon I got an email that the 5th order had shipped - the on sale items for me (that had, of course, gone on sale after I’d placed the order before it, go figure).
So I dropped them an email with the order number and expressed my concern and asked for an updated status and stuff. I was very nice, I promise.
I got a form email that said I’d get a real response in 48 hours.
Late that afternoon, seriously, like 5pm, the order just arrived. I was so happy and so when I got two emails from two different people later that something was wrong and order statuses were not updating, I didn’t worry about it. I just deleted them, figuring I had my stuff so there was nothing else to worry about.
Then I got another email this past Friday, the 28th, another auto-generated email that told me it was pleased to tell me that my order shipped that day. I didn’t read this until the next day and pretty much as I sat at the computer confused, a truck pulled up and left a box at my back door. A couple of hours later, my sale order arrived via a different carrier.
Yes, that first box was the order I have already received.
I wasn’t able to handle this then, so I guess I have to wait until Tuesday the 2nd when everyone opens up again.
But isn’t that silly? The left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing.
Oh, in fact, I was just looking online at my business credit card to see if they charged me twice for this since they sent it out twice. I used the business card for most Christmas presents because it was just easier to take my paycheck from that jury duty (which, yes, you get paid even if you get kicked off halfway through, lol) into my business account while I was making other deposits and used that for Christmas. Well, it appears they didn’t even charge me at all for that order! I know I paid via that method, too, as my order shows that. I will double-check again, but I only saw the other charges and going to page two already put me in November…
Well, the whole left and right hand thing is kinda like me, really. Because in the meantime of all of this, Sarah and I were at the mall on that Thursday, the 28th and I got suckered into going in by the big sign that read that body washes were only $3 instead of the typical $10.50. And then I saw the aromatherapy body washes that were only $5 instead of $13 and I really started drooling. And… well…

I couldn’t help myself.
But for what it’s worth… well, here’s the photo’s description:
…I got most of these for only $5 instead of the usual $13 at their big sale this week. Of course, that doesn’t include that Lavender Vanilla one, I already had that one, but it does include another Lemongrass Mandarin that’s not pictured… because it’s in my bathroom (as opposed to hiding under the desk with the rest of these). And it does include one way in the back that’s a bathbubbles rather than body wash. And the Eucalyptus Spearmint stuff came in a purse thing with the stuff I ordered first from their website sale… hey, I need a new purse anyway. It came with the body wash which is great, but that pillow mist stuff is, eh… I’m not that girlie, lol. And it also came with a full lotion which I know I will never use simply because I have not yet used the ones I got in, like, March that are of my favorites of this stuff. I think I’m going to tell people to never buy me lotion anymore - body washes are great, but no more lotions or body sprays because I’m over run with the stuff!! Ahahahahahaha
I know, I’m bad.
What can I say?
UPDATE: as referenced in the 5th comment below:
Hmmm… I just noticed that my problems with them may be bigger than I thought. Looks like they overcharged me on all of the online orders I placed that I’ve been billed for so far:
$0.93 on the first
$2.77 on the second
$4.14 on the third
$2.81 on the fourthThose are all rather small amounts by themselves but together they are $10.65 and that is just not a sign of a good, trustworthy company! Also, the smallest overcharge is on the smallest order and the largest overcharge is on the biggest, so it’s almost like there’s a system to this or something. (??) But I know they are not sales tax because that’s already included in the totals I have, from the printouts on their website from within “My Account.â€
So if this duplicated order comes through, I’m sure I’ll be overcharged on that one, too. I’m going to wait a few days before contacting them though, because not even the charge I did in the store has come through yet, on the 28th. So I’m going to wait and make sure everything comes through before I call them and let them know just how much they screwed up.
UPDATE AGAIN: also as referenced in comments below:
Okay! I just got off the phone with them. The other two charges did come through today so I figured I’d better call.
She said that the difference in the overcharges was the tax. The website didn’t tell me I was going to have to pay it and underestimated it. Apparently this is a problem they’re aware of and are working on. However, even though I said that, well if it is tax I am supposed to pay then okay, they are still crediting me each one of those charges.
And they are going to credit me… something about the shipping on that second order and not charge me for the duplicate - so now that I think about it, maybe they’re crediting me the shipping on the actual order and not charging me for the duplicate, maybe she misunderstood what I said and thought that the actual order arrived late as well? Well, either way, I am supposed to take the duplicate back to a store and be credited. That kinda sucks because I am an hour from any store, but I have needs to go to those areas before long anyway.
I might get in there, though, and tell them I want to keep the ducky but return the rest, Eljiah loves the duckies. ;-) (The ducky came with a bath bubbles and that was what I got for my 11 year old cousin. Elijah already has a magenta duck he got in there last month bringing his rubber duck collection to six now.)
I’m glad it’s all taken care of, though!

Wow. I hope that situation gets straightened out with as minium hassle as possible.
Dude, that looks like me a few years back. I had so much body crap that I had hoarded for years, mainly from Bath and Body Works. It was insane. I could have started my own store with all the things I had. Haha.
Your stuff does look really nice, though. It makes me want to go out and —- Now look what you’ve done!
lol, hey you’ve got yourself a bonus/deal! That’s cool :P at least they didn’t charge you.. maybe its their mistake that they sent it twice :S no clue. Anywhoo, hope you have an awesome New Years!!
I’ve had something similar happen with Amazon.com before. Eventually they realized they sent me two, so they send me an e-mail asking me to return the duplicate within 30 days or else I’d be charged for it. They paid for the shipping.
Hope you had a good holiday!
Wow, what a steal on those body washes! Bath and Body Works can be addicting!
Heh - and now I picked up three more washes at a little non-gift-exchange at a the last Christmas family gathering yesterday! Haha ;-)
@ Shawna - you know, the US Postal Service did that to me, too. I ordered stamps online, sometime in 2006, and they arrived but then a month or so later I got another shipment. I was incredibly busy at the time and so the package sat on my table unopened for a few weeks as I kept forgetting about it. And then I got a bill from the USPS to return the duplicates or be charged as well. I should have just kept them… the Christmas cards cleaned me out of stamps. ;-)

Wow, that’s really weird. You should definitely call to resolve this and also go to a store if possible. Getting an order twice and being overcharged on every order is very, hmmm, bad? Call to see if you can avoid the double charge and of course this mysterious overcharge on every order!
So weird. Please keep us updated as to what happens.
