Cinderella Three?
Okay, I admit it. I didn’t even know there was a Cinderella Two (Dreams Come True) until they started advertising this third movie: Cinderella III: A Twist in Time.
Well, apparently, movie II is about Cinderella getting used to living in the palace and things like that. Losing herself, or something. Movie III, as far as I can tell, is about the evil stepmother conjuring up a spell to reverse everything that the The evil stepmother conjures up a spell that reverses all of which the fairy godmother did.
Now, I hate to break it to you, kids, but that’s not how the story goes. In the original Grimm Brother’s story, the prince rides off with each of the step-sisters before he ever does with Cinderella. You see, each of them had feet that were too big for the glass shoe, right? The step-mother gives the one a knife and tells her to cut off her big toe so she can fit into the shoe. She does, and they ride off, but some pigeons sing that there is blood in the shoe, take a look. He does and he takes her back. The other sister then pulls the same stunt by cutting off her heel… with the same results. Finally, he returns for Cinderella. But her not-dead dad isn’t so nice either and when asked if he has any other daughters… “‘No,’ said the man, ‘there is still a little stunted kitchen-wench which my late wife left behind her, but she cannot possibly be the bride.’” But, of course, they do hook up and head out.
But then: “When the wedding with the king’s son was to be celebrated, the two false sisters came and wanted to get into favor with Cinderella and share her good fortune. When the betrothed couple went to church, the elder was at the right side and the younger at the left, and the pigeons pecked out one eye from each of them. Afterwards as they came back the elder was at the left, and the younger at the right, and then the pigeons pecked out the other eye from each. And thus, for their wickedness and falsehood, they were punished with blindness all their days.”
See how Disney screws our kids up with all these fake endings and sequels? ;-) Heehee
Seriously, though, the original Grimm tale is so much more beautiful than your typical Hollywood-style story, there are many differences between the two such as the “fairy godmother” was instead a bunch of birds, apparently with very high IQs. Check it out sometime.
And if you want a really good Disney movie, Robin Hood is my absolute favorite. I really want to get the DVD, who wants to buy it for me? :-) I really think Elijah will like this movie as well, he loves animals, especially talking ones, haha.
