It’s almost like a pratical joke.
Last May, when we came home from Kentucky, there were some men working on putting a new water line in for the neighbor. It had to go through our property because we don’t care and said he could - unlike the guy behind us who didn’t want his precious yard torn up, if even temporarily. Hence photo at left.
Much later, Monday, in fact, the area was tilled again and grass seed put down by the neighbor who was in need of the new water line. (I hope he remembers our kindness and flexibility when he has to come over here and fix the AC line Steve cut through last fall. Ahem.)
It was my perfect opportunity, and under the cover of darkness, late last night when the neighborhood was asleep I…
…took advantage of that tilled dirt and planted about a thousand sunflower seeds. Then I Miracle-growed ‘em good.
Yeah this might end up being quite funny, if those things hurry up and sprout. The neighbor thinks he’s fulfilled his duty at putting our yard back to normal with sowing the seed only to find it littered with sunflowers of all types. I planted nearly everything I could get my hands on: “regular” sunflowers, red ones, orange ones, fuzzy yellow ones, yellow and orange ones, ones with big centers, ones with little centers, ones that reach five feet tall, ones that reach twelve feet tall, and a bonus combination pack that contains who knows what. Ahhhh. This will be nice. I just hope Steve doesn’t mow them over before they have a chance to get started.
Now, in my defense, I’m not trying to be mean to the neighbor, haha. I planned on planting these anyway when I purchased them last week. He’s just done the hard part for me. ;-)
I can’t wait until they bloom!!
In similar news, this is the kind of thing we spent last Saturday and Sunday doing. After my genealogy workshop at the library, we planted my pink flowering almond bush-thingy (finally) then Elijah and I planted gladiolas and African daisies while Steve planted some more ivy in the hopes that this stuff will grow and take over the hillside unlike the stuff we planted last year.
Sunday afternoon we did some more gardening and then cleaned up some trash. This has the possibility of making us sound really bad, but with all the renovation Steve’s done over the winter, there’s been a lot of trash. Old drywall, old trim, old paneling, old wallpaper, old this, old that… and he’s had nothing to do with it. So it’s pretty much laid out where it got thrown out the window (thankfully not visible by a lot of people). And the basement is an absolute mess. Stuff has just piled up over the last 7 years. Cabinets Steve thought he might install in the garage, but didn’t, boxes to computer games and programs I’d kept “temporarily” in case something was wrong and I had to exchange it or whatever, amongst other things. So we loaded up the trailer and now the yard looks nice. Very nice. I no longer feel like white trash. :P We still have stuff that needs to come out of the basement and probably the garage, too.
So, anyway… I forgot what else I was going to say…
