E’s First Camera

We went on a little outing yesterday with some family and friends and while I’ll get to that later, I wanted to show you all a few photos. On our way out we had to stop at a store for some bug spray and batteries and we ended up seeing this little digital camera for kids. So E got his first camera, a $20 Spiderman thing. He’s been asking for a camera for some time now, so I figured what the heck. I wanted to wait until his birthday, but… oh well. So here are three of his first twenty-six photos:

College Memories

My College Graduation, 2001 Yesterday I was looking for some photos in my archive when I came across photos from my college graduation. I hadn’t posted anything old lately, so I gave it a go.

These are from May 12, 2001, and they’re all oooold scans, so the quality really stinks. I should find the originals and re-scan them but I think that would take me down a road I don’t want to go down. I have literally boxes and books of photos, lots of photos, that could stand to be re-scanned. And that would just take forever.

And that brings me to the final picture, me and my friend C.

Weekend Update

Yes, a lame title, but say it in your best Norm Macdonald voice…

Anyway, psycho weekend. What else is new?

Friday we had a lovely dinner with my sister-in-law Morgan and my sweet little niece followed by an evening at our house with them and my parents.

Saturday we went out with fellow Flickrites Todd and Sharon for lunch and a walk around historic St. Charles, Missouri. I’ve met them twice before, so it was really nice for Steve to finally get to meet them. We had a grand ole time. :)

Spam Blogs

Ugh. I am SO tired of spam blogs. I don’t mean a few ads, either text or Google-type, or even a sponsored post here and there. I mean when I think, “oh, I’ll see what so-and-so’s up to lately,” only to find the site is covered in nothing but PayPerPost buttons and “disclosures,” tinyurls to affiliate links, and every entry is an obvious spam entry… and it takes you three or four pages of posts to finally find one that’s not.

Gah, I hate that. Talk about annoying.

So Mistreated

I just wanted to share a photo with y’all… this is my doggie Rimshot.

Bathtime!

He acts like he’s just soooooo mistreated because he has to get his fur all clean and silky and soft again…

But in his free time, he likes to surf the net.

Why I love my dog...

He’s approximately seven years old, enjoys chasing rabbits, playing with cats, and rides in the Jeep. He’s just looking for a good time but is open to the idea of a Mrs. Rimshot. Must be single, equally hyper, and, well, a rat terrier, of course!

A “letter”

People can be so nasty, but I’m sure you knew that already. I have been working on the website of a lobbyist to the state for quite some time now. During the elections last year, for obvious reasons, things got very busy. And for the first time in the couple of years we’ve been running the site… the hate mail poured in. Most of it was rather harmless and sometimes humorous, people whining about a word here and there used to describe some bill or group of people, etc. But one guy just went the full mile… and I have been saving this for a rainy day.

Before I get into this, let me just say something. The lobbyists are conservative, that is their point of view. And whether or not it is yours, in America we all have a right to believe what we want. We all have the right to share those views if we so desire. And we all have a right to vote for what we believe is right and talk to our legislatures about what we believe is right. Etc. So no matter what the lobbyists believe or what you believe, the email I’m about to post portrays the opinion of someone who is wrong, someone who obviously thinks that other people do not have the right to believe what they want to believe and wants to force everyone into his beliefs system - he goes off on a tirade on nothing in particular, just the general stance of the lobbyists.

I ♥ it!

New Carpet I have been non-stop since Thursday, I feel like I’m just now relaxing for the first time in days. We spent all weekend and then some working on the house, on the living room.

We were hoping to put the carpet down Saturday but as life would have it, the dryer popped and broke Thursday night. So Steve spent the earlier part of the morning looking at that, driving out for the part, then fixing the silly thing. In retrospect, it was a quick fix as compared to my washer a few weeks ago. But because he didn’t get to that Friday night like he’d wanted, he felt like he wouldn’t be able to do the carpet Saturday and the mid-part of the day was spent fixing a few spots where the paint had come off with the masking tape. Stupid, really, because that tape is not supposed to take the paint off, that’s part of why you use that blue crap. But he apparently didn’t have the patience with it that I did and when I took a short break from taking down tape on Wednesday, he just started pulling it off, way too fast. Oh well, you really can’t tell he “patched” any part anyway, it all blends in wonderfully. Even that spot where E colored with the Sharpie marker is now gone. But he also wasn’t sure about getting the carpet from his parents’ house because it was raining. You don’t want to install wet carpet, of course!

Silence is not the answer

Yesterday, 33 people were killed at Virginia Tech when a very disturbed man with a gun went on a shooting rampage. What happened yesterday was very horrible, the worst nightmare of some come to life; the biggest school shooting so far, I’m told. I mourn for those who have lost loved ones.

But that same day, a domain was registered: onedayblogsilence.com. This website now wants to encourage all bloggers to be quiet on April 30th out of respect for the victims.

I want to know: Why? Why April 30th? Why does anyone think this will help the victims or their families? (And why is this showing up in my WordPress dashboard? It has nothing to do with WordPress. Of course, that’s a whole different issue.) April 30th is a Monday, why do people think that partying all weekend long then saying nothing on Monday will make any kind of statement? It’s very easy to hold off posting to a blog for one day while not taking anything to heart about what one claims to be standing in silence of and letting “real” life go on without a second thought to the issues.

Why don’t people understand that by being quiet about issues like these, we essentially encourage them? Why push it under the rug? We live in a day and age where we can quickly exchange information. Why should we be silent about anything? To be silent is to say it is not worth discussing. To be silent is to offer our endorsement. To be silent is to be ignorant. To be silent is to let it happen again.

If this person who set up this onedayblogsilence website cares so much, he or she should be advocating reform instead of silence, even helping to gather donations or letters of support for the victims’ families. Silence does not help. No, I tend to think there are personal reasons underfoot here. Maybe the plan is to get a lot of backlinks regarding this April 30th, have the silence day, then sell adspace on a quickly established website. Of course, I’m not accusing anyone, but that’s the thought hanging in my mind.

No, if you want to be silent, be silent in your heart with your thoughts. Think about what you can do to change things, to stop this from happening again.

I, for one, will not be silent on April 30th.
