Did you miss me? You probably didn’t even notice I was gone, aye? I haven’t been gone. Just a little weekend gone. But since I have nothing else to talk about lately… how about a photographic tour of our weekend? Over the course of a couple of posts since I’m not done uploading photos? :P Okay, have it your way, you talked me into it, twisted my arm, if you insist…
One of Steve’s cousins got married Saturday so we planned the trip up for the wedding and reception. It’s about four hours though, so I figured it would be better to go up Friday and come home Sunday. I was right, of course! We had a lot more time to fool around and just go where the wind would direct. The only thing I got crap about was the hotel. The internet can be deceiving when booking online and so we got a few surprises. It wasn’t really all that bad, though, the worst part was Saturday morning when I was showering and Steve flushed the toilet… yeah, talk about hot water. Not to mention I’ve had bad sinus problems and have been waking up with no voice. A scream when you have no voice… well, it’s quite funny.
So, anyway, our destination was Quincy, Illinois and while that doesn’t sound glamorous, it is what it is. There’s actually quite a bit to do around that town.
There are some absolutely gorgeous houses in the older residential part of town, too. The photo to the left there is of my favorite one. Some of them are old and some are brand new, but built in the style of the older ones. The town itself is not hard to navigate, you’ve just got to remember a few key one-way streets and you’re good to go. Of course, if we can navigate St. Louis, this oughta be easy, heh.
We drove up rather late on Friday, having had to wait for Steve to get home from work, of course, then showering and such, and getting on the way, then dropping E off at my parents’ - yes we got a childless weekend, at that - and then stopping at the store for some clothing items. Steve decided he needed a new shirt, me, too. I also found two pairs of jeans, one of them half off — Yay! :) So we drove up the whole way in the dark and while there was rain off and on, we had only one torrential downpour to go through. We didn’t get to check into our hotel until right before 11pm.
I slept horribly both nights because of my sinus issues — I’ve been popping pills like crazy, lol. But once I had breakfast I was good to go. Despite the other issues we had with the hotel, breakfast was actually pretty good. We’re not talking your typical “continental breakfast” where it’s just donuts, cereal, or a banana. We were served hot meals. Nice. :)
After that, it was time to explore town, and, of course, we ended up down at the riverfront. There was a lot of activity there, lots of people boating, partying, kids playing, etc. We drove up along the river for a while, then came back, checked out Quinsippi Island (which wasn’t all that great, but hey), other areas, blah blah blah, before it was time for lunch.

So anyway, that’s where I’ll leave you for now. My battery’s low now anyway. :)

I noticed you were gone, and I cried every night! :( No wonder I felt the energy to open my eyes and breath today: you had come back! :D :p
Sorry about the sinus. Did that happen before or after the trip? Also, which online booking site did you use to book the hotel? Many times the hotels turn out to be extreme versions or opposite of what the online reviews say, in my experience also. The house you pictured does indeed look very, very nice on many levels. I wonder how much it costs, and I wonder how much it would cost here in California.
I am glad you did not get continental breakfast. Some of them may be nice, but many of the ones that I have eaten make me wish for McDonald’s a lot.
Looking forward to more updates.
lol @ crying :)
Yeah sinuses been acting up for the last week I guess. Typical, though, that they get really bad while I’m gone. Very typical.
I booked our hotel online from the hotel’s website. For one thing, the pictures they showed led you to believe that this hotel had all the rooms with indoor entry as opposed to each one having a door to the outside (rather than a hallway). I don’t really care but that’s what Steve prefers. But that wasn’t the case, and there were two separate buildings from the building with the front desk and etc., and it was all outdoor entry. That’s just one thing…
I actually know where Quincy is! Yay! Western Illinois University is in Macomb, IL which is not too far from Quincy! Your pictures are always so beautiful. I’m jealous!
Glad you enjoyed it and got to go sight seeing..
It sounds like a lovely weekend getaway! Especially since it’s a child-free weekends! Glad you enjoyed it, and the hot shower toilet flush is sooo funny!
Ahh Jamie, I didn’t realize we were that close!! And thanks :)
Thanks Jared and April :)
