This morning, Elijah started his school known as Tuesday School. I can tell this is going to be a real blessing. It’s a free, once-a-week preschool. It’s not all play time, they do crafts, music, snacks, and real class. They will also take some field trips at points throughout the year. Today he made a cute little bumble bee in crafts (see photo) and a folder full of what I can only assume is homework. He was also given four large charts for learning ABC’s and sounds and stuff. Big charts. And for free. I’m just not sure where to hang them yet. I’m afraid if I put them in his room (which is just about the only wall space besides the living room) that he’ll rip them down eventually just like the Cars poster. Of course, he already knows his letters by sight (at least when a funky font doesn’t confuse him), but this will be great for helping him to learn to write.
Before his class, I had to fill out a bit of paperwork so we came early. His teacher greeted us and sat down with us on a bench. She introduced herself to him and asked him little questions like, “do you like to make crafts?” to get him to warm up. Then she said that she had something in common with him, “we’re both left-handed.” Inside my mind I went “YES!” As discussed here and there, I’m 99% sure he’s left-handed (if not ambidextrous) and I, of course, am right-handed so I have been really nervous about teaching him writing, for one. This lady also has homeschooled her own children which makes me feel even better, if that is possible.
While he was in his class (which is only two hours), my friend T and I went right up the road to another church that has a gym and a fitness room. Another free thing, and it was so nice - after five minutes of being there, we ended up being the only ones there. We got in a good workout (we did the elliptical, treadmill, stationary bike, weights, and walked a mile around the gym) and were back in time to pick the kids up. (She’s the one that told me about this Tuesday School, her boy is a bit younger than E.) I felt really good after that - even E’s whining about going to the grocery store (we were, he didn’t want to) couldn’t damper my mood. Then I had a very quick shower and a big, wonderful salad and a few minutes after that, my friend showed up with her three kids.
Those silly kids, they wanted to play with each other, but all they did was sit there and watch SpongeBob. It was okay with us moms, though, I could tell my friend was exhausted after the day she’d already had and I was starting to get tired. Plus it was the first television that any of them had watched in the day, so it wasn’t like they’d been sitting there all day.
Plus, this was too cute to pass up:

Last night I went to see Hairspray with my mom, sister, and sister-in-law. I have not laughed that hard in a long time! Fifteen minutes in, my sister-in-law and I had both already decided we’re gonna buy the DVD when it becomes available! I mean, seriously, is there anything better than John Travolta in a dress? Well, maybe there’s a lot of things better than John Travolta in a dress, but there are few things more entertaining! I laughed the whole time he was on screen, I just couldn’t help it, he’s hilarious. I could not take his character seriously (though I don’t guess you are supposed to or they would have cast an actual woman) and some of the funniest parts were when he was talking just normal dialog because he sounded like Dr. Evil! So in my mind, I’ve got this strange picture of what a child of Mike Meyers and John Travolta would look like.
We were the only four people in the whole theater, as my sister said, “I guess everyone who wants to see this movie has already seen it.” So we were able to just really be loud like we would at home. Making fun of things, comments about this or that, just having an all around good time.
I loved it. :) ♥

No, not that! My first time at a shooting range!
Today, in preparation for this deer season, Steve and I went out to shoot some guns. Before this, I have shot only one gun, one time, and that was years ago. So since I am going hunting with him this season, I need some practice.
At first I was really nervous. I mean, it’s not like I’ve never been around guns, I’ve just never had a real reason to handle them. When we were little, we were taught to respect guns. You know their power but you know how to handle them. But it was still very intimidating, I think, because of the loud noises and how I saw the gun kick when Steve first demonstrated for me. So along with the fact that keeping my left eye closed was causing it to water profusely, I felt like I was going to cry. LOL. Stupid, I know, but that’s how it was… until I’d shot it once and started to relax.

This morning I went and got a good workout with my friend. We worked it hard and are going to do it every week, maybe twice, depending on schedules. Surprisingly, right afterward, my blood pressure was good, too; so yay!
They had some video they’d taken and afterwards asked me if I would help them put it all together with some music and intro, etc. We had a lot of fun and it turned out great, especially when considering we had to use Windows Movie Maker!! Take a look:
Yesterday I went to the library with the purpose of getting some info off of some floppy disks I have since I no longer have a floppy disk drive. Ninety percent of these floppy disks are simply photos: stuff I had developed and put on disk ten years ago and photo disks from when Elijah was a baby that I got from the photographer.
I only had one hour before the kid-watching-area closed and some of that time was taken up with buying a punch card for Elijah and taking him over there. I then went into the library (this is all in our community center), walked past the front desk after signing in to use a computer, to the genealogy section where I always go. There are two computers there, separate from the main computer area. They are better because there’s not usually many people back there, it’s near all the stuff I might need (books, more tables, microfilm, etc.), and the monitors aren’t down in the desks. I hate desks like that, hurts my neck.
So I pop in a floppy disk, then one of my jump drives. The plan is simple: copy files from floppy disks to USB drive, be done within 20 minutes to a half an hour. The USB disk didn’t want to load. I suspected as much, I mostly have trouble getting all but one to work any other time; dig out the other one and try that. While I’m waiting for the computer to find that, someone comes running at me. I mean literally running around the corner.
It’s Library Guy.

The other day, Elijah and I went out to the National Tiger Sanctuary for our free tour. :) It’s a long story as to why we were having a free tour, but suffice to say I loved it so much I plan to go back soon and pay for another. This time we’ll take Steve and maybe some others.
Our first glimpse of the tigers was through the fence which we parked by. A big, wooden thing, it’s just a perimeter fence and not a boundary that the tigers can come up to. The three orange boys (Vincent, Paul, and Max) were sunning themselves on the deck. They have the freedom to come up there, go to their stalls, or play around in their yard. The middle yard belongs to TJ, the white male, and the left yard belongs to Dee, the lone female.
From there we were able to go inside, then out on the deck to see the boys. They were sunning themselves and enjoyed our attention. Elijah took some photos with his camera of Paul and I took a few of Max and Vincent. I am sad that all the bars are in the shots, but I know it’s for my own safety. :P
