hmmm… what?

Went to the community center this afternoon to go swimming. Took Elijah and Sarah and my friend T and her boy came down as well. In all, we were there about two hours and had a great time. I even rode the slide this time. All three of us older ones did, it was really fun! Thank goodness Elijah didn’t want to slide, he’s too short: you have to be 48 inches tall.
Anyway, halfway through, I got out and got my camera to take a few pictures of the kids. I took the three you see above and then was going to take a photo of Sarah as she came down the slide. I’m standing there, in the far end of the kiddie area which starts with a depth of 0′0″ and I’m standing in water that’s four inches deep at most… waiting.
The lifeguard changes and an 18-year-old blonde chippie starts yelling at me from across the kiddie area. I can’t hear her but she doesn’t come any closer. I move a bit closer and finally hear what she’s saying: “no cameras in the water… The camera has to stay out of the water.”
“Uh, yeah,” I tell her, “it’s not in the water, if it was, it would get ruined.” lmao
All the while she’s yelling at me, before I moved closer, I’d moved out of the water completely. I take my picture… didn’t come out, by the way, as I snapped too late. I put the camera back and go back in the water where my friend is.
She’d been reading the rules board since I’d been yelled at… nothing on it at all about cameras or electronic devices or anything. So how am I supposed to know what the rules are, about those kinds of things, if they’re not posted?
But what we can’t figure out is why all the hoopla? What’s the big deal? I mean, c’mon!
This just reminded me of the time we went to the St. Louis Art Museum, or what about the time I was at the library a couple of weeks ago, lol… But you know, even when I’m not doing anything wrong and someone yells at me I always feel like I’m on their radar after that…
I'm Valerie, late 20's, from Missouri. I'm married... with children: a young boy and a baby girl. I enjoy many things including photography, candle making, videography, history, and mythology. Baby Girl was born 11 weeks early after my water was broken for 8 weeks - she's my little miracle - so you're bound to hear a lot about her progress here. I am also a second generation homeschooler, that's bound to come up as well.

It looks like a fun time. About that camera rule, I don’t get it either. :/

Hey! My name is Valerie, too! lol.
I know just how you feel. I went to England for the first time, earlier this year, and immediately after I took my first picture, I saw the sign – “No Photography.” Oops….

maybe they’re afraid of like, child pornographers lurking around.. all in all, that was pretty daft, the gal who shouted at you when there was no sign or nothin’, and your camera wasn’t even “in the water” as she claimed.

I love when people tell you that you are not allowed to do something but then can’t find anywhere where you should have known that. Is it that hard to document the rules?

Wow, I wish I could be swimming, but for some reason Tennessee decided to get randomly cold outside. My home state, Texas, is hot enough to swim still.
Those pictures are so cute!
I stumbled upon your site following the fun linkage trail. Your site name caught my eye, “Spoken For” is one of my favorite songs, MercyMe is awesome.
My site name is from Starfield’s “Can I stay here forever” – you should listen to it, it is beautiful.

It sounds like you had a fun time at the swimming pool. I haven’t gone swimming for quite a while now. :(

If I were you, I’d keep snapping photos. :) Pretend you are hard of hearing. Rules aren’t rules unless they’re written down…
…and if the “rule” was that important, she wouldn’t yell at you from across the way, right?
