in the photo booth
Saturday was the wedding of one of my really good, really longtime friends, and while they spent a lot of money on things I never would have dreamed of for a wedding and reception, one of the things they did stands out a lot as being really cool.
When I got married, my mom put something like two one-time use cameras on every table at the reception. She’d first seen the idea at my - now get this straight - grandpa’s then-wife’s daughter’s reception. The idea is the guests take pictures of things and leave the cameras for the couple. Well, we did develop a lot of those then I just quit and we now have a box of about 10 or 12 of them that haven’t been developed. They’re probably not even any good after all this time.
So, anyway, my friend. Outside the reception venue (a restaurant), on the sidewalk, they had a photo booth set up. The guests were supposed to hop in, press the green button, and have three pics taken. Then the machine would spit out two copies of the photo strip and they were to put one into a black-paged scrapbook and write a note, and keep the other strip. Well, Elijah hit the button maybe four times, but we only ended up with two strips. Here’s what we got:

Elijah was talking in every one of them (pressing the button again in the 5th) and Steve was… being really stupid.
But anyway, I also managed to get yelled at by the photographer (how does this always happen? It’s not like I’m doing anything!) because he just couldn’t wait for me to finish putting our strip in the book to get his candid shot of people in the photo booth that was a very common occurrence going on. That ticked me off and I think he could see that because he did apologize but dang. The table was set up right next to the photo booth and I couldn’t help it if I was not only in the way but unaware that I was in the way. It’s not cool to yell at your client’s guests, man. Of course, he was no where near as rude as that guy at Steve’s cousin’s wedding, though, so he has that working for him. I couldn’t figure out what he was thinking before the ceremony started though, he sat across the aisle from us while we were seated and waiting, and he kept eying my camera, lol.
So, anyway, I thought the photo booth was a really cool idea. Steve thought that maybe they spent an arm and a leg on it, I take a gander it’s not any more expensive than doing one-time use cameras when you consider the buying, developing, and the crap you get back… :)
Oh, and that second strip was so bad and the girl (from the reception venue) overseeing the stuff said, “you don’t have to put both in there, just one,” so I took that as a hint not to and we didn’t put the second one in. I’ll probably give the second copy to my friend though!
