We do strange things in our sleep sometimes. Some people can wake up and are immediately alert, others, like the both of us, are pretty groggy at first. Early this morning, I was sleeping on my right side and off in a very deep sleep when suddenly there was pain in my left thigh. I awoke with a “WHAT. THE. HECK!!?!?” And Steve is there, “I don’t know!” Then, “the house is shaking!” He got up and ran to the window. We just kind of chalked it up to his being crazy (at least I did) and laid back down, it was almost time for him to get up, anyway.
WELL! It was a 5.2 earthquake, centered in New Salem, Illinois! That’s something like four hours from here, as a straight route (not following the highway).

I’m currently on my laptop. I run Windows Vista. Yes, I’m becoming a Microsoft fangirl. But, I do have iTunes on here since it’s what I have on the desktop and since I have an (ancient) iPod. I also have QuickTime. I hate Quicktime. With a passion. But I have it anyway, it comes with iTunes and I guess it comes in handy if I want to view one of my cell phone videos.
So, with that being the extent of my Apple software, I was surprised when this popped up a bit ago:
Uh, yeah, I don’t have Safari but Apple wants to push it on me! I almost clicked to install without looking at it since it seems like there are constant iTunes and QuickTime updates. But look at the screenshot, it appears as if Safari has/is an update, rather than optional software.
So, uh, what’s the deal, Apple?

Yesterday (Thursday) was kind of weird. It was Steve’s second to last day of school (YAY!) and he was wiped out and fell asleep early on the couch. I put Elijah to bed around his usual time and proceeded to entertain myself with the internet. Steve woke up around midnight while I was lying on the floor with the laptop, chatting. He did one of those hilarious Richard Nixon shakes with his head and got himself a Mountain Dew.

So this is very weird…
Many moons ago we were just driving around town and happened to see a cute brick home for sale by owner. I knew it was probably unaffordable for us, but I was really curious anyway (we’re always looking for deals, too, you never know what might happen), so a few days later I called and left the guy a voice mail asking about the house.
A few days after that, the guy called and it ended up being a conversation about me, and who we are, what we do, etc. I don’t know why I kept answering his questions, but he found out more about us than I did about the house. And the real kicker? He refused to tell me the price he was asking for the house. Refused! Said he’d rather we come look at it first, could we do that this weekend? No, I told him for the fortieth time, we’re not serious right now, we’re just looking around. Because, to be honest, I want to know the asking price up front because I don’t want to fall in love with something and then find out I can’t afford it, amongst other reasons. I don’t even remember everything he did tell me about the house, just that I knew they weren’t living it anymore, they’d already moved an hour north of here. So recently I put that new hard drive in my laptop, right? I had a problem with my drivers, my CD was unable to find the zip files to extract for some reason but Vista seemed to find them all except the one that controlled the front buttons like volume, etc., and I found that program and driver and installed it. Everything was good except, we seem to have a very big issue with the computer hibernating. Continue reading ‘Sleep, hibernation, and not so much’
KSDK - 19-year-old Gregory Smith Junior pleaded guilty Tuesday to assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Smith admitted severely beating of a 7-year-old boy he happened to see near a tunnel along Interstate 44 near Pacific.

The victim and his then 4-year-old brother were playing there, in May of 2006, when Smith walked up to them and started assaulting the older boy.
The 7-year-old was punched, then kicked repeatedly while laying on the ground. He was beaten so badly that both of his eyes were swollen shut by the time the young boys were able to make it home for help.
Police say Smith previously admitted to the beating, and said he had been drinking and taking prescription drugs before the attack.
It appears the attack was random.
What in the freaking heck!?!?
I logged into our bank’s website a bit ago to check and see if they’d paid our water/sewer bill yet. It’s going tomorrow, but two other things have caught my eye.
The first is a deposit of $477.27. It is right next to Steve’s last paycheck deposit and I have no idea what it is. So I click to view it and the name is in a female’s handwriting. You can just tell, you know? And the name itself? My brother-in-law! So I’m like, craaaaap, they screwed up and put his deposit in our account. But then I look at the account number and it is our account number, matches what my checks say. So now I’m wondering if Steve had some “extra” money he deposited and they screwed up and wrote the wrong name on it. I messaged him but he’s in school today so no answer yet. But if this is our deposit, I don’t know where the money came from in the first place! Continue reading ’strange bank stuff’
We think it was last Thursday while we were at the zoo that what we thought was a mosquito bit Elijah in three places, because I had bites, too, on my legs. He had two bites on the right side of his right calf and one on the upper left side of his forehead.
Friday, the bite on his forehead turned into this huge lump, like he’d bumped his head on something. Seriously, it went from very small and white in nature to about a diameter of a quarter and about half an inch tall at it’s highest point. He said it hurt. The spots on his legs at this point were just kinda large, but not very large, and red. I put allergy cream on both spots and by Saturday, the spot on his head was back to normal.
