I called the Customer Service number on the back of my credit card to get some information. There was a ring and a pause and then a clicking noise. An automated woman’s voice said I was eligible for a $100 rebate. My credit card is a rewards card and I thought I was going to receive my points reward. A man got on the phone and, because I thought he was from the bank, I gave him all the information on my credit card but not my social security number. The man on the phone was not very polite and I actually asked him to stop yelling at me. He then asked me if I wanted to give money to the American Veteran’s Assn., and that’s when I knew this call was a scam. I got a different CS number from my credit card’s website and put a fraud alert on my card and I called Experian to put a security alert on my social security number. I am calling all my credit card companies and changing my security question and answer. Experian will notify the other two credit agencies. These guys were pushy and rude, They wanted me to hurry up. They asked for my name and address several times and I asked them why. I said you are the bank you should have my address and phone number, why am I having to repeat it 3 or 4 times. I stupidly gave them all the information on one of my credit cards. Hopefully, I have done enough to protect myself from identity theft. These guys sounded official. I was suspicious in the beginning but I gave them my personal information anyway, but I was positive they were scamming me when they asked for money. This just happened 2/6/2017 at 6:42am. I am not sure if I am going to lose any money or my identity. I just wanted to warn people. I do not know how they hacked into my credit card company’s customer service phone number.
