When I contacted the Sony wb site for product service on my Mini-Disc Player, I was told that it was still covered by warranty and would be replaced with a factory reconditioned unit for $30.00. I sent them my player(at my own expense) and received a call saying that they had no replacement units in stock and would recondition my unit and return it to me. When I received the player back they had charged ne $80.00 for the service. I would never have paid this if told up front.
